The Sleepy Hollow boys’ JV basketball team lost at Eastchester on Tuesday, January 31st by a score of 54-38. The Horseman were led by Dan Yawman with 10 points. Next up for the JV is Martin Luther King on February 2nd away at 4:45.

On Tuesday, January 31st, the Sleepy Hollow varsity boys’ basketball team lost a hard fought league game at Eastchester by a score of 45 – 44. The Horsemen were determined to avenge an earlier 19 point home defeat to the Eagles and came within an unfortunate bounce on a ten foot jumper by Tommy Fahey, shocking Eastchester at the buzzer. Harley Falasca was unstoppable with 27 points. Ronniel Munoz and LJ Garrant contributed 7 points; and Dionel Infante held Eastchester’s leading scorer, David Solano, to only 8 points. The Horsemen’s record stands at 4 – 10, but they are growing into a team that no one wants to face come play-off time. They play next at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers this Thursday, February 2nd at 4:45 PM.

The Sleepy Hollow boys’ junior varsity basketball team lost on Friday evening, January 27th to Ardsley 54-36. After a slow start the boys played a great 2nd half and showed a lot of heart by playing hard until the end. The Horsemen were led by Henry Hargatai who had 13 points followed by Mike Fortugno who pitched in with 11. Up next for the boys jv is an away game at Eastchester Tuesday January 31st after the varsity game.

On Friday, January 27th, the Sleepy Hollow varsity boys’ basketball team clinched a berth in the Section I play-offs with a hard fought 33 – 28 victory over the Panthers of Ardsley High School. The Horsemen were carried by Harley Falasca’s 19 points and buoyed by outstanding defense by seniors Freddie Bertrand and LJ Garrant. While the Horsemen continue to struggle to consistently score, they have developed a tough defensive mindset that keeps them in games.
A big week lies ahead with road games at Eastchester and Roosevelt on Tuesday and Thursday, before an appearance in Mount Vernon High School’s Super Saturday Showcase against Cardinal Spellman of the Bronx. Midweek game times are 4:45 PM. Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 5:30 PM tip-off. Proceeds from the Super Saturday event will be donated to Coaches vs. Cancer.
Senior Night will be held next Monday, February 6th when the Horsemen take on Pelham in the season’s last home game.

The boys’ junior varsity basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 4 point loss to Hackley on Wednesday, January 18th. The boys played three great quarters to open up a 16 point lead led by the 3 point accuracy of Henry Hargatai, who scored 19 points, 17 coming in the first half. Unfortunately, the boys could not finish strong and gave up the game to a very inspired Hackley team. The next game is at home Friday, January 27th against Ardsley.

On Wednesday, January 18th, the Sleepy Hollow varsity boys’ basketball team avenged an early season defeat to Lincoln High School of Yonkers with a convincing 51 – 33 victory. Trailing 16 – 13 at halftime, the Horsemen exploded after the break scoring the first 10 points of the half and never looking back. Harley Falasca poured in 29 points. Dionel Infante and Freddie Bertrand played outstanding defense, and Tommy Fahey and LJ Garrant negated Lincoln’s decided size advantage on the glass. The Horsemen are home on Friday, January 20th at 4:45 PM against league leading Saunders High School of Yonkers.

Sleepy Hollow Varsity Boys’ Basketball dropped a hard fought league game to Pelham on Wednesday, January 11th 65 – 57. Harley Falasca played an outstanding all around game providing outstanding defense and aggressive rebounding to go along with 22 points. The Horsemen are next in action at Lincoln HS of Yonkers next Wednesday, January 18th at 4:15 PM. They will look to avenge a heartbreaking desperation buzzer beater home loss from December. The Horsemen are currently 2 – 8 on the season.

On Friday, January 6th, the Varsity Boys’ Basketball team defeated Roosevelt High School of Yonkers 66 – 50. Harley Falasca scored 18 points (all in the 2nd half) and Tommy Fahey scored 13 points to go along with 15 rebounds. The Horsemen responded to a disappointing 8 point deficit at halftime to drop 46 points in the second half on the Indians. The Horsemen return to action at Pelham High School on Wednesday, January 11th at 4:45 PM.

On Thursday, January 5th, the modified boys’ basketball team lost a tough one on the road at Irvington 43-39. Michael Morales led the way with 10 points. Richard Batista had 6, and Wendell Brand, Gabe McGuire, Steven Grady, and Andrew Laub each dropped in 4 points. The Horsemen will rematch Irvington at home on Tuesday, January 10th.

The Sleepy Hollow boys’ junior varsity basketball team opened their season on Monday, December 5th against Hastings at Hastings High School. The boys suffered a hearbreaking loss 55-54 after rallying from a 17 point deficit. The boys showed a lot of heart and determination climbing back into the game. Mike Fortugno led the Horsemen with 16 points and stifling defense down the stretch, giving them a chance to win the game. Daniel Moriarty chipped in with 13 points and rebounded the ball well and Alex Laub had 8 points and also had a major impact defensively.
The Sleepy Hollow boys junior varsity basketball team notched its first win of the season Tuesday, December 6th by defeating Tuckahoe at home. The boys won 46-36 behind a strong defensive effort by the entire team. A well balanced offense led by Mike Fortugno’s 15 points was too strong for Tuckahoe to overcome. Joe Good and Eli Sierra each had 9 points as well as numerous defesnive deflections. Alex Laub continued to dominate the boards and the boys played a great team orientated game. Next up for the boys’ JV is John Jay Cross River Friday evening December 9th, in the Sleepy Hollow Gym.
