At Ardsley High School on Monday, January 7th, Manny Velazquez tipped in a missed shot with 1.2 seconds left in overtime to seal the victory for the Headless Horsemen. Velazquez finished with 14 points. Nick Arduino had 13 points. The Horsemen play at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers on Wednesday, January 9th at 4:45 PM. The next home game is Friday, January 11th at 4:45pm vs. Woodlands High School.

On November 30th and December 2nd the Sleepy Hollow Boys’ Varsity Basketball team opened up their season in the Howard Godwin Holiday Tournament to mixed results. After losing the first game to eventual champion Gorton High School, the Horsemen ensured town bragging rights for another year with a hard-fought victory over Hackley. Junior guard Nick Arduino scored 27 points during the tournament. Junior Alex Laub led the team in rebounding and senior guard Ronniel Munoz contributed outstanding defensive play. Arduino was named to the All-Tournament Team. Munoz garnered the tournament’s Coaches’ Award. The Horsemen are back in action on Tuesday, December 11th at Lincoln High School in Yonkers. Game time is 4:45 PM.

On Tuesday, December 4th, the jv boys’ basketball team lost their season opener to White Plains High School. by a score of 73-61. Eli Sierra contributed 27 pts and Wendell Brand added 15. The team put forth a good start to the season. Our nexst game is on Saturday, December 8th at Tuckahoe at 10am.

SLEEPY HOLLOW ATHLETE HONORED – HARLEY FALASCA
Sleepy Hollow boys’ basketball player Harley Falasca has been named All-League by the Westchester County Basketball Coaches’ Association. Harley, a senior, led the Horsemen in scoring this past season with an average of 19 points per game, including a career high 30 point explosion in a memorable victory over Cardinal Spellman of the Bronx in the Coaches vs. Cancer Super Saturday Showcase at Mount Vernon High School on February 4th. Harley will participate in the Exceptional Seniors All-Star Game at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 25th at Sleepy Hollow High School.

SLEEPY HOLLOW ATHLETE HONORED – L.J. GARRANT
On Tuesday, March 20th, Sleepy Hollow High School Senior LJ Garrant will be honored at the Section I Boys’ Basketball Coaches’ Association All-Section Dinner as a member of the 2012 Court of Excellence. The Court of Excellence honors elite student athletes in Section I Boys’ Basketball. LJ is being recognized for his play on the court, his performance in the classroom, and his service in the community. The dinner will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown.

The Sleepy Hollow boys’ JV basketball team lost at Eastchester on Tuesday, January 31st by a score of 54-38. The Horseman were led by Dan Yawman with 10 points. Next up for the JV is Martin Luther King on February 2nd away at 4:45.

On Tuesday, January 31st, the Sleepy Hollow varsity boys’ basketball team lost a hard fought league game at Eastchester by a score of 45 – 44. The Horsemen were determined to avenge an earlier 19 point home defeat to the Eagles and came within an unfortunate bounce on a ten foot jumper by Tommy Fahey, shocking Eastchester at the buzzer. Harley Falasca was unstoppable with 27 points. Ronniel Munoz and LJ Garrant contributed 7 points; and Dionel Infante held Eastchester’s leading scorer, David Solano, to only 8 points. The Horsemen’s record stands at 4 – 10, but they are growing into a team that no one wants to face come play-off time. They play next at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers this Thursday, February 2nd at 4:45 PM.

The Sleepy Hollow boys’ junior varsity basketball team lost on Friday evening, January 27th to Ardsley 54-36. After a slow start the boys played a great 2nd half and showed a lot of heart by playing hard until the end. The Horsemen were led by Henry Hargatai who had 13 points followed by Mike Fortugno who pitched in with 11. Up next for the boys jv is an away game at Eastchester Tuesday January 31st after the varsity game.

On Friday, January 27th, the Sleepy Hollow varsity boys’ basketball team clinched a berth in the Section I play-offs with a hard fought 33 – 28 victory over the Panthers of Ardsley High School. The Horsemen were carried by Harley Falasca’s 19 points and buoyed by outstanding defense by seniors Freddie Bertrand and LJ Garrant. While the Horsemen continue to struggle to consistently score, they have developed a tough defensive mindset that keeps them in games.
A big week lies ahead with road games at Eastchester and Roosevelt on Tuesday and Thursday, before an appearance in Mount Vernon High School’s Super Saturday Showcase against Cardinal Spellman of the Bronx. Midweek game times are 4:45 PM. Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 5:30 PM tip-off. Proceeds from the Super Saturday event will be donated to Coaches vs. Cancer.
Senior Night will be held next Monday, February 6th when the Horsemen take on Pelham in the season’s last home game.

The boys’ junior varsity basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 4 point loss to Hackley on Wednesday, January 18th. The boys played three great quarters to open up a 16 point lead led by the 3 point accuracy of Henry Hargatai, who scored 19 points, 17 coming in the first half. Unfortunately, the boys could not finish strong and gave up the game to a very inspired Hackley team. The next game is at home Friday, January 27th against Ardsley.
