Modified Boys’ Basketball

On Thursday, January 5th, the modified boys’ basketball team lost a tough one on the road at Irvington 43-39. Michael Morales led the way with 10 points. Richard Batista had 6, and Wendell Brand, Gabe McGuire, Steven Grady, and Andrew Laub each dropped in 4 points. The Horsemen will rematch Irvington at home on Tuesday, January 10th.

JV Boys’ Basketball

The Sleepy Hollow boys’ junior varsity basketball team opened their season on Monday, December 5th against Hastings at Hastings High School. The boys suffered a hearbreaking loss 55-54 after rallying from a 17 point deficit. The boys showed a lot of heart and determination climbing back into the game. Mike Fortugno led the Horsemen with 16 points and stifling defense down the stretch, giving them a chance to win the game. Daniel Moriarty chipped in with 13 points and rebounded the ball well and Alex Laub had 8 points and also had a major impact defensively.

The Sleepy Hollow boys junior varsity basketball team notched its first win of the season Tuesday, December 6th by defeating Tuckahoe at home. The boys won 46-36 behind a strong defensive effort by the entire team. A well balanced offense led by Mike Fortugno’s 15 points was too strong for Tuckahoe to overcome. Joe Good and Eli Sierra each had 9 points as well as numerous defesnive deflections. Alex Laub continued to dominate the boards and the boys played a great team orientated game. Next up for the boys’ JV is John Jay Cross River Friday evening December 9th, in the Sleepy Hollow Gym.

Varsity Boys’ Basketball

The Westchester County Basketball Coaches’ Association distributed awards yesterday at Saunders High School. Congratulations to Jorge Berenguer who received All-League honors and Jonathan Martin who was selected All-League, All-Conference, and All-Section. Jorge averaged 14 points, 6 assists and 7 rebounds per game. Jonathan, one of only seven players in Conference III to be named All-Section, has averaged more than 20 points and nearly 11 rebounds per game. Both players are to be commended for their fine play as are their teammates for an exceptional season.

JV Boys’ Basketball

On Thursday, February 10th, the Sleepy Hollow JV Boys’ Basketball team defeated Edgemont. It was a full team effort led by Justin Ramos with 10 points. Owen Leggio and Nick Yawman added 9 points in the collaborative effort. Defensive efforts by Alex Laub and Dionel Infante helped push the Horsemen’s record to 5-8. The JV Horsemen boys will have their final game of the season on Monday February, 14th at 4:30pm at Rye.

On Tuesday, February 8th, the Sleepy Hollow JV Boys lost a tough matchup against Briarcliff. With contributions from Nick Yawman and Justin Ramos with 10 & 9 points, the Horsemen boys could not captialize in the end. The Horsemen boys take on Edgemont home at 6:15pm on Thursday, February 10th.

On Friday, February 4th, the Sleepy Hollow JV Boys Basketball team defeated Westlake in an exciting away game. The Horsemen were led by SG Nick Yawman with a season-high 19 points and PG Nicky Arduino with 8 points and 6 assists. The exciting win secured a three game win streak for the Horsemen. The JV Horsemen look to continue the streak on Tuesday, February 8th Home vs Briarcliff at 6:15pm.

Varsity Boys’ Basketball

The boys’ varsity basketball team enjoyed a very busy final full week of the regular season. On February 7th, the Horsemen defeated Croton-Harmon at home by a score of 57-53. Jonathan Martin led the way with 19 points, Damon Davis added 15, and Jorge Berenguer scored 11.

On February 8th, Sleepy Hollow faced a talented Briarcliff squad and were looking to even the season series following a lopsided loss in January. In one of the best games of the season, and despite an outstanding effort, the Horsemen lost to the Bears 42-39. Once again, Jon Martin led all scorers with 17 and Harley Falasca added 12. The Horsemen finished with a 7-3 league record.

On February 10, Sleepy Hollow hosted the Edgemont Panthers for Senior Night, an annual tribute to senior cheerleaders and players. The game went back and forth throughout, with both teams experiencing periods of prosperity and drought. With 2 minutes left to play, the Horsemen were down 58-51 and all looked lost. However, a sudden offensive outburst got them back in it. Jorge Berenguer scored a layup with five seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. The extra session belonged to the Horsemen, as they outscored Edgemont 6-1 and won 64-59. Jonathan Martin was dominant, scoring 29 points. Harley Falasca added 14 and Jorge Berenguer added 10.

Sleepy Hollow, which started the season 1-5, is now 10-7. The final game of the regular season is on February 14th at Rye. Seedings for the sectional tournament will be announced on February 16.

Varsity Boys’ Basketball

The boys’ varsity basketball team concluded a two-week “quiet” period during which they did not play, with a 62-44 victory over Westlake on February 4th. Jonathan Martin led the way with 24 points, Jorge Berenguer scored 13, Harley Falasca had 11 and Damon Davis added 8. The Horsemen now stand at 8-6, including a 6-2 league mark.

A busy week ensues on February 7th with a home game against Croton-Harmon. Contests against Briarcliff (February 8), Edgemont (February 10), and Rye (February 14) conclude the regular season.

JV Boys’ Basketball

On Friday January 21st the Sleepy Hollow JV Boys Basketball team defeated a tough Pleasantville basketball team in what would be the most memorable game the coaching staff has seen this season. The game was a tug-o-war until the end of regulation, when point guard Nicky Arduino hit a game saving three-pointer at the buzzer to send the Horsemen into overtime 51-51. The Horsemen pulled away with the win from a last second shot in overtime hit by forward Justin Ramos. The Horsemen boys were led by three leading scorers: Nick Arduino with 12 points, Nick Yawman with 10 points, and Justin Ramos with 20 points. The Horsemen return to action on Friday January 28th at 4:30pm, home in the Jack McCleery Gymnasium vs. Westlake.

On Wednesday January 19th the Sleepy Hollow Horsemen JV Boys Basketball team fell short to rival Ossining. They played hard all the way through but were cut short by the O defense. Horsemen boys were led by Justin Ramos with 11 points and Nick Arduino with 6 points, 5 assists. Their next game will be on Friday January 21st at Pleasantville.

Varsity Boys’ Basketball

The boys’ varsity basketball team continued its winning ways with a 58-42 road victory over Pleasantville High School on January 21st. Jorge Berenguer led the Horsemen with 18 points, Jonathan Martin added 16, and Harley Falasca scored 15.

After going 2-5 in December, the Horsemen compiled a 5-1 record in January. Now 7-6, Sleepy Hollow is looking to continue to improve as it approaches playoff time.

The Horsemen face Croton-Harmon High School at home on February 2nd.

Varsity Boys’ Basketball

The Headless Horsemen continue to improve. On Saturday, January 15th, the team traveled to Croton Harmon High School to challenge the Tigers. A close game at halftime turned into a Horsemen romp, as Sleepy Hollow prevailed, 68-45. Harley Falasca led a balanced scoring attack with 20 points.

The Horsemen returned home on January 19th to face rival Ossining. In their most complete game of the season, Sleepy Hollow raced out to a 31-point second half lead en route to a convincing 64-47 victory. Jorge Berenguer and Jonathan Martin scored 18 points each, Damon Davis contributed 14, and Harley Falasca added 7.

Sleepy Hollow, which began the season at 1-5. now stands at 6-6 and 4-2 in the league. They travel to Pleasanvtville on January 21st to face the Panthers.

Varsity Boys’ Basketball

The boys’ varsity basketball team continued its winning ways by defeating Westlake High School on January 11th by a score of 55-43. Jonathan Martin led the way with 23 points, Jorge Berenguer scored 12 and Harley Falasca added 14.

The Horsemen traveled to Briarcliff High School on January 13th for a highly anticipated matchup with the Bears. Sleepy Hollow put forth a valiant effort in the first half but could not maintain it in the second. In the end, Briarcliff defeated Sleepy Hollow by a score of 68-49. Jonathan Martin scored 13 points, Jorge Berenguer added 12, and Harley Falasca contributed 10.

The Horsemen are now 4-6 on the season and travel to Croton-Harmon on January 15th to face the Tigers at 12noon.
