Modified Boys’ Soccer

The boys modified soccer team suffered their first lose of the season to Irvington. The soccer team had a hard fought battle but fell short by one goal, ending the game 2-3. Daniel Quechol led the Sleepy Hollow defense to a 0-0 score at half-time. Pearse O’Donohoe put his head on the ball to get Sleepy Hollow’s first goal of the game. Michael Illescas never gave up and forced a shot past the goalie. Boys’ modified soccer is now 3-1 for the season. The next game is Wednesday, October 19th against Hastings-on-Hudson at home.

Varsity Boys’ Soccer

The boys’ varsity soccer team had its first come from behind victory this year against Ardsley High School on Wednesday, October 12th with a score of 4-2. The first half was completely dominated by Ardsley as Sleepy came out flat and a little disorganized. Ardsley put up two goals in the first 20 minutes. Sleepy started to counter towards the end of the first half but could not finish. The second half was the complete opposite. Sleepy came out more determined and organized and played one of the best halves they have played all year. Sleepy scored four goals in the first 25 minutes and had many other scoring opportunites. Two of Sleepy’s goals were scored by senior striker, and co-captain, Matthew Praino and the other two were scored by sophomore sweeper/striker Demetri Boomis. These goals were assisted by Praino, Boomis, senior midfielder, and co-captain, Christian Zhinin, and junior striker Ryan Higgins. Senior goalkeeper, and co-captain, Robert Bischoff, as he always does, made some fantastic saves to keep Sleepy in the game. The team’s next game is a home game against local rival Irvington High School on Friday, October 14th. Sleepy Hollow’s current record is 8-2-1. Go Horsemen!!

Modified Boys’ Soccer

Sleepy Hollow boys’ modified soccer has done it again. A hard fought 6-1 victory over Woodlands. Brain Sanchez sunk the first goal while Johnny Diez capitalized on a penalty shot. Mike Illescus made sure they remembered him by adding two goals to the total. Christian Arteaga found the back of the net. Liam O’Sullivan left the goal for some field time and added a goal of his own. Francisco Herrera and Daniel Quechol led the hollow defense for another successful soccer game. Boys’ modified soccer continue their undefeated season Thursday, October 13th at Tuckahoe.

Varsity Boys’ Soccer

Sleepy Hollow’s boys’ varsity soccer team had a tough overtime loss against Hastings High School on Wednesday, October 5th. The final score was 3-2. This was a good performance by the boys. They are to be commended for their effort since it was their third game in a row in as many days. Both teams played tough, aggressive, and technical throughout the game with Sleepy again dominating the possession aspect of the game. In the first half Sleepy, as they have all year long, had a plethora of scoring chances but were turned away by the Hastings goalkeeper. Hastings scored first in the 25th minute. It was a shot that just eluded senior goalkeeper, and co-captain, Robert Bischoff. Sleepy responded 10 minutes later with a goal by senior midfielder, and co-captain, Matthew Praino that was unassisted. Five minutes into the second half Hastings scored again. Sleepy pushed and pushed and finally tied it up with 5 minutes left to play in the game with another unassisted goal from Praino. During the overtime Sleepy again let many scoring chances go by and Hastings won the game with two minutes left in the second overtime period. Some players who stood out for Sleepy were senior fullback Jack Centra, senior midfielder Petey Loja, and junior fullback Kevin Ortiz. Hollow’s record is currently 6-2-1. Their next game is an away game against Gorton High School (Yonkers) on Monday, October 10th at 10:30 AM. GO SLEEPY HOLLOW!!!!

Varsity Boys’ Soccer

The boys’ varsity soccer team won an away game against Gorton High School (Yonkers) on Monday, October 10th with a score of 5-2. This was a fantastic performance by the boys. Sleepy dominated most of the possession and kept the ball in Gorton’s half most of the game. The score at the end of the first half was 2-1. Sleepy’s first goal was scored by senior striker, and co-captain, Matthew Praino which was assisted by junior striker Ryan Higgins. In the middle of the first half Higgins scored with a great pass from Praino. Sleepy came out focused in the second half and scored three more goals. Two of these goals were scored by Praino, his third hat trick of the year. One was assisted by Higgins again and the other was unassisted. Gorton was able to score another goal in the middle of the second half on a wonderfully scored set piece to make the score 4-2. Sleepy’s fifth goal helped finish off the game. It was scored by senior mid-fielder, and co-captain, Christian Zhinin and assisted by Praino. Senior goalkeeper, and co-captain, Robert Bischoff made some important saves in the game to keep the game in Sleepy’s favor. To date this was the best game the team as a whole played all season. The team’s next game is a home game against Ardsley High School on Wednesday, October 12th. Sleepy Hollow’s current record is 7-2-1. Go Horsemen!!

Modified Boys’ Soccer

Another knock out victory for the boys’ modified soccer team. The boys defeated Bronxville with an impressive score of 8-0. John Welch delivered another header goal. Goals were also scored by Hugh Gomory, Andre Ribeiro, Isaiah Isaacson, and Jason Loja. Brian Sanchez served a laser shot from 30 yards out into the back of the net. David Arajo added his two goals for a final score of 8-0. Diego Chacha and Vito Arpi held the defense strong while Liam O’Sullivan and Jack Steurer shut out the enemies’ attempts at adding a goal. The boys’ modified team will be having their homecoming game at WI on Tuesday Oct 11th at 4:30. Come out and see Sleepy Hollow’s undefeated soccer team.

Varsity Boys’ Soccer

The boys’ varsity soccer team won their game against Roosevelt High School (Yonkers) on Tuesday, October 4th with a score of 9-0. This was a fantastic performance by the boys. The score at the end of the first half was 6-0. Senior midfielder, and co-captain, Matt Praino set the tone of the game by scoring three goals in the first half. Two of these goals were scored on penalty kicks and the third was assisted by senior midfielder Petey Loja. Senior midfielder, and co-captain, Christian Zhinin also scored three goals in the first half. He was assisted on two of these goals by Praino and the third was assisted by senior striker Brian Guananga. In the second half Sleepy continued its dominance of the game by scoring three more goals. Praino and Zhinin both added goals to bring their totals to four. Junior midfielder Ryan Higgins also scored his first goal of the year by scoring off a corner kick. The defense is to be commended for not allowing one shot on Hollow’s goalkeepers. The next game for the boys is an away game at Hastings High School on Wednesday, October 5th. The boys’ varsity soccer team record is currently 6-1-1. Go Hollow!!

Varsity Boys’ Soccer

The boys’ varsity soccer team won an away game against Pelham High School on Monday, October 3rd with a score of 3-1. This was a fantastic performance by the boys. Sleepy dominated most of the possession and kept the ball in Pelham’s half most of the game. The score at the end of the first half was 2-0. Sleepy’s first goal was scored by senior mid-fielder, and co-captain, Christian Zhinin which was assisted by senior midfielder, and co-captain, Mathew Praino. With seconds left in the first half Praino scored his first goal of the game with a great pass from senior midfielder Petey Loja. Sleepy came out focused in the second half and scored one more goal. This was scored by Praino, his second of the game, on a penalty kick. Pelham was able to squeeze in a goal in the middle of the second half to make the score 3-1. Senior goalkeeper, and co-captain, Robert Bischoff made some tremendous saves throughout the game to keep the game in Sleepy’s favor. To date this was the best game Bischoff has played all season. Some other players who stood out were junior fullback Kevin Ortiz, and the entire midfield core made up of Praino, Zhinin, Loja, and seniors Matthew Casarin and Carlos Uyagauri. Their play was key in the victory. The team’s next game is an away game against Roosevelt High School (Yonkers) on Tuesday, October 4th. Sleepy Hollow’s current record is 5-1-1. Go Horsemen!!

Modified Boys’ Soccer

First game, first victory. On Tuesday, September 27yh the boys’ modified soccer team started the 2011 season blazing a path for a bright future. The team defeated Dobbs Ferry with an impressive 5-1 score. Johnny Diez started the boys’ soccer team with a goal. Brian Sanchez added to the lead dancing through the defense and right by the goalie. The second half brought more excitement with Christian Arteaga scoring 2 goals and John Welch scoring once. Liam O’Sullivan was instrumental in the goal defending that held the lead for the horseman. The boys travel again to Dobbs Ferry on Tuesday, October 4th. Come support the future of Sleepy Hollow soccer. Keep up the great work boys modified soccer!

Varsity Boys’ Soccer

The boys’ varsity soccer team won it’s away game against Dobbs Ferry High School on Monday, September 26th with a score of 4-1. This was a decent performance by the boys. The score at the end of the first half was 1-0. Senior striker Carlos Uyaguari scored the only goal in the first half with a header. He was assisted on this goal with a wonderful cross from senior midfielder, and co-captain, Christian Zhinin. The rest of the goals were scored by senior midfielder, and co-captain, Mathew Praino. Congratulations to Matt for scoring a hat trick. Two of the goals were unassisted and the third goal was a header from a Petey Loja cross. Dobbs wasn’t able to break through at any point. Their goal unfortunately came on a deflection off a Sleepy player. The next game for the boys is an away game at Pelham High School on Monday, October 3rd. Hollow’s current record is 4-1-1. Go Hollow!!
