On Thursday, May 2nd, Sleepy Hollow girls’ lacrosse had a well deserved win against Yonkers. The final score was 14-4. Senior Maddy McGovern and Junior Molly Von Heill led the team with 4 goals each. Additional goals for Sleepy were scored by Jane Maloy (2), Sonya Smith (1), Marina Pantoliano (1), and Irene Territo (1). Emily Comas played in goal for Sleepy and finished the game with 13 saves. Congratulations to the Seniors, Maddy McGovern and Lizzy Brady, for playing in their last home game for Sleepy Hollow! The girl’s play their next game on Tuesday, May 7th at Keio Academy. The game is scheduled to start at 4:45.

The Sleepy Hollow modified girls’ lacrosse team lost a home game against Pelham middle school on Friday, April 26th. The first half was played tough by both teams and Pelham led at the half 6-2. The goals were scored by co-captains and middies Hannah Derechin and Caroline Kachnowski. In the second half Hollow came out strong and continued to play well. Both teams played solidly and the final score was 11-5. Hollow’s second half goals were scored by Derechin (3 in total) and Kachnowski (2 in total) again. Hollow’s goalkeepers, 8th graders co-captain Cynthia Jimenez and Alexandra Adofo, played solid games in net and had 11 saves for the game. There were some other stand-out players for Hollow including 8th grade attack Elyse Johnson and 8th grade defenders Mia Solomon and DeAvionne Russell. Also, 7th graders Eliza Sandler and Fabiola Salerni had solid games. They are all to be commended for their effort. Hollow’s next game will be an away game at Hartsdale Middle School on Monday, April 29th. Hollow’s current record is 1-1. Go Sleepy Hollow!!

The Sleepy Hollow modified girls’ lacrosse team started their season off with a home game victory against Ardsley middle school on Monday, April 22nd. This was the their first victory in over two years. The first half was played well by both teams as Sleepy played tremendously well up front and led at the half 5-3. In the second half Hollow came out more determined and played an even better second half. The girls were able to keep possession in Ardsley’s half of the field for most of the second half and scored 5 more goals. The final score was 10-4. Four players scored for Sleepy Hollow. Middie and co-captain, Caroline Kachnowski scored a game high 5 goals. Middies and co-captains, Hannah Derechin and Amanda Hynes both scored 2 goals. Attack player Elyse Johnson scored the other goal for Sleepy on an excellent shot into the upper corner from an almost impossible angle. Goalies Cynthia Jimenez and Alexandra Adofo had great games and Mia Solomon had a fantastic game in defense. For many of the girls on the team this was their first competitive experience with lacrosse. They are to be commended for their effort. Hollow’s next game will be a home game against Pelham middle school on Friday, April 26th. Go Sleepy Hollow!!

The Lady Horsemen have had a tough road this season, but despite the multiple loses, they still continue to stay positive and put up a fight! On Tuesday, May 8th Sleepy met the bull dogs of Irvington for the second time this season. The game was at Dow’s lane in Irvington, it was the Bull dog’s senior game. The Horsemen started out the game with a 4-1 lead, absolutely dominating the field of play in every aspect possible. Annelise Birrittella led the Horsemen again with yet another hat trick. Those who were present at the game witnessed an extremely physical game, especially in the second half. Unfortunately for Sleepy, Irvington conducted a comeback that ended in a 13-6 final in favor of Irvington. The Lady Horsemen have their next contest at home against Hastings on May 10th at 4:30.

On Thursday, May 3rd the Birrittella sisters led their team into battle against the Eagles of Dobbs Ferry. Annelise controlled the score board as usual, providing Sleepy with yet another hat trick as well as several assists, while Alexis led the defense, set up several fast breaks and added a goal! Unfortunately Sleepy lost. The final score 6-12, was not indicative of how the game was played. Aside from allowing a few quick goals in the final minutes of the game, the girls worked hard and played a consistent game. The girls are definitely picking up the pace as the season moves forward. The Lady Horsemen are seeking a big win in their upcoming contest against Ardsley. The last time these two team met the final score was 11-11. The game is at home on Friday, May 4th at 4:30.

On Thursday, April 26th the Headless Horsemen unfortunately did not fair well against one of their neighboring town rivals, Irvinton. Irvington got off to a quick start, scoring on several fast break opportunities. Though frustrated, the lady horsemen managed to keep their composure throughout the game. The final score was 6-15. The team’s next game is on Friday April 27th, against the Hastings Hornets. Hastings will be hosting the game, the scheduled starting time for the game is 4:45.

On Tuesday, April 24th, Sleepy Hollow played their first league game against Ardsley. The game was definitely the most exciting game of the season! Down by five goals, Sleepy orchestrated an amazing comeback within the last five minutes of the game. The charge was led by Annelise Birrittella, Katherine Doyle and Marina Pantoliano. Goalie Rebecca Leeper had 19 saves on the day. The final score was 11-11. Sleepy hosts their second league game against Irvington on Thursday, April 26th at 4:30.

The Sleepy Hollow modified girl’s lacrosse team lost their away game against Bronxville Middle School on Tuesday, April 24th. The first half was played tough by both teams and Bronxville led at the half 3-1. The goal was scored by 7th grade attacker Hannah Derechin. In the second half Hollow came out strong and continued to play well. Both teams played solidly and the final score was 8-2. Hollow’s second half goal was scored by middie 8th grader, and co-captain, Renata Morales. Hollow’s goalkeeper, 8th grader Dominique Marchini, played a great game in net and had 8 saves for the game. There were some other stand-out players for Hollow besides the players who contributed to the goals. They included 8th grade middie Cynthia Jimenez and 8th grade defenders Nicole Territo and Alexandra Adofo. They are all to be commended for their effort. Hollow’s next game will be an away game at Edgemont Middle School on Tuesday, May 1st. Hollow’s current record is 0-3. Go Sleepy Hollow!!

Sleepy Hollow JV girls’ lacrosse lost a hard-fought game against Ardsley with a score of 9-4 on Tuesday, April 24th. The first half was a little shaky, as the Headless Horsemen trailed 5-1. But in the second half, the Horsemen were able to find confidence and intensity. Sonya Smith had two goals, Emily Carter scored once, and Anja Cabrera also scored. On defense, Samantha Gonzalez played outstanding defense, never giving up, while goalie Sarah Hoffman had six saves in the first half. The Horsemen will face Irvington at home on Thursday, April 26th at 6 pm.

On Saturday, April 21st, Sleepy Hollow played away against the Pelham Pelican’s. The final score was 5-16 in favor of Pelham. It was another tough loss for the Horsemen, but despite the loss the lady’s are starting to see some improvement, especially with their patience on the offensive side of the field. On the defensive side of the field sophomore goalie Rebecca Leeper split time with freshmen Emily Comas in goal. This was Emily’s first time playing in the goal keeper position, it was also Rebecca’s first time playing on midfield, they both did very well. Overall the team played hard throughout the entire game and is ready to play their next game away against Ardsley at 4:30 on Tuesday April 24th at 4:30 .
