Monday, April 25, 2011 – The old saying in sports goes something along the lines of: “Teams that take a break from competition – in the middle of the season – due to a variety of circumstances, habitually return to play less enthused and unmotivated.” Well, the lady Horsemen did not follow that trend whatsoever. Despite a 12-9 loss to the gritty lady Eagles of Dobbs Ferry, the all-around play from the Sleepy girls was a sight to watch. Many times their defensive play was flawless and offensively, the lady Horsemen spread out their scoring production. Leading the way was senior Andrea Alvarez, 3 goals and 1 assist, who played her best game so far this season. Also among the offensive output were Annelise Birrittella, 3 goals, Jen Angevine, 1 goal and 2 spectacular assists, Marisa Weissman, 1 goal, Bobbi Shortell, 1 goal, and Gabby Cellante, 1 assist. Between the pipes Rebecca Leeper made 10 saves, and remarkably did her best to hold back the Eagles’ offensive force. Sleepy looks forward to their next contest which takes place Wednesday, April 27th at 6:30 p.m. against the Riverhawks of Ossining, which will be played under the lights.
