The week started out horribly for the Sleepy Hollow golf team losing a match against Irvington at Ardsley Country Club by shooting a disappointing 272.   Several of the players were dejected with their performance.  However, the team was able to rebound nicely the very next day when it faced Westlake at Elmwood Country Club.  Although the team lost that match, they improved their total score by twenty strokes.  Sophomore Kelly Bender matched her brother Jimmy Bender’s score of 47 to be the medalists for the team. Senior Ian Hummell who has lowered his score each time out continued the trend and shot a 51.

On Wednesday April 16th at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, the players continued to improve their play and their score.  The team improved on its previous day’s score by nine strokes for a total of 243.  It seemed as if the good weather had brought along good golfing for the players.  Marco Baran, in spite of butchering the first and ninth holes, shot a 46 at Sleepy Hollow Country Club which Senor Collado claimed has the fastest greens he’s ever seen.  Jimmy Bender again matched Marco Baran with a 46.  Seventh grader Jack Bender, playing the upper nine of the Sleepy Hollow course shot a 49.  He is the first player in Sleepy Hollow golfing history to shoot under 50 in his first go-round at the upper course.  Alternates Jack Schnog and Jasmine Taub-Brumley showed promise and are expected to play in future matches.  The golf team faces off against Edgemont on Thursday, April 17th at Sunningdale Country Club.

Devin Mahoney and Ian Hummell each shot a 44 on the upper course and Kelly Bender shot a 45. The Sleepy Hollow Golf Team improved its record to 7 and 4 by defeating Valhalla on April 30th at Maple Moor Golf Course.  Although the day was pleasant, the course was still muddy from the torrential rains of the past couple of weeks.  Marco Baran again led the team with a 47 that was matched by senior co-captain Carey Robinson.  Carey has struggled this year but finally seemed to have figured out his driver and managed to shoot his best score of the season.  He played alongside newcomer junior Will Royston who shows a lot of promise and determination.  Devin Mahoney shot a 48 while Ian Hummell shot a 50.  In only his second year on the golf team Ian has become one of the most consistent players on the team.  Kelly Bender drove the ball well, but her poor iron shots led her to shoot a 54.  The Horsemen face off against Irvington and Westlake at Sleepy Hollow Country Club on Wednesday, May 2nd.

The Sleepy Hollow Golf Team claimed two victories on April 25th against Hastings and Pleasantville.  All the players had to endure a constant downpour but managed to keep dry enough to finish the matches.  Marco Baran shot a stellar 38 on the front nine holes at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.  After hooking his tee shot and carding a bogey and then a double-bogey on the tough uphill second hole, Marco played the remaining seven holes even capping off the round with a chip in birdie on the ninth hole.  Ian Hummell played as a one and managed a round of 50.  Senior Rob Capossela, true to his word, shot his best round of the year and posted a 48 on the upper course.  Kelly Bender parred every par 3 on the lower course except the ninth and carded a 40 on the lower course.  Kelly plays from the same tees as the rest of the team and usually faces off against juniors and seniors.  However, she has been one of the most consistent performers on the team.  Currently the team is 4 - 3 and hope to continue its improvement.  We meet Valhalla on Monday, April 30th at Maple Moor in White Plains.
