The Sleepy Hollow JV girls’ lacrosse team continued their league season with a home game loss against Westlake on Monday, May 2nd. The first half was well played by both teams as Westlake led at the half 2-1. The girls kept the ball in Westlake’s half of the field for a majority of the second half but couldn’t find the net. The final score was 5-1. Sleepy’s goal was scored by freshman and Co-Captain Caitlyn O’Donnell. Sleepy’s defense had its best game to date. Those players, freshman and Co-Captain Anja Cabrera, freshman Annie Plotkin, Sophomore Elizabeth Pisipia, and eighth grader Catherine Brennan are all to be commended for their play. Some other stand-out players for Sleepy were goalie Elsa Veras and freshman mid-fielders Meghan Geary and Samantha Dorazio. Sleepy’s next game will be a home game against Pleasantville High School on Friday, May 6th. Go Sleepy!!

On April 25th 2011, the Sleepy Hollow Varsity Tennis team played home against Valhalla for the second time. It was a beautiful, sunny day, perfect to play tennis next to the Hudson River. The boys, once again, did a brilliant job by winning 5-0. The first singles Ben Hofling lost the first set of his match but than with the team support and the help of Coach Brian Tompkins he came back and won the match. The Sleepy Hollow players are very excited for their next match on Wednesday, April 27th vs. Croton-Harmon.

The Boys Varsity soccer team won its last regular season home game against Briarcliff Manor on Wednesday, October 20th with a score of 4-2. This was a fantastic performance by the boys. Sleepy dominated most of the possession and kept the ball in Briarcliff’s half most of the game. The score at the end of the first half was 2-2. Sleepy scored in the early minutes of the game with a goal by senior mid-fielder Jose Filipe Pacheco which was assisted by senior Erik Sanchez. Briarcliff scored immediately afterwards to tie it up. Later in the first half Hollow scored again with a goal by junior mid-fielder, and co-captain, Christian Zhinin which was assisted again by Erik Sanchez. Briarcliff played tough and tied it up again. Sleepy came out focused in the second half and scored two goals. Erik Sanchez scored the first which was assisted by junior striker Carlos Uyagauri. The second was all Sanchez as the two brothers combined for the team’s fourth goal. Senior Striker, and co-captain, Mark Sanchez scored the goal and Erik assisted. Senior Erik Sanchez had his best game of the year and should be congratulated on his goal and three assists. Other players who stood out for Hollow were senior sweeper, and co-captain, T.J. Kent, and senior stopper Thomas Carraro. Their defensive play was key in the victory. With this win Sleepy has kept its chances of making the playoffs intact. The team’s next game is an away game against Croton-Harmon on Friday, October 22nd. Sleepy Hollow’s current record is 7-7-1. Go Sleepy Hollow!!
