On Friday, September 28th, the JV Volleyball team notched its fourth win of the season by narrowly defeating Hastings 2 games to none. The first game was a real nail biter with neither team able to take a command of the game. Then at 19 – 18, sophomore Glennis Rodriguez served six straight tough serves for the Horsemen victory. The second game was also close, however Sleepy Hollow was able to pull it out in the end. In spite of missing its starting outside player, setter, and the libero, the rest of the team rallied for the win. The team will face Nanuet on Monday, October 1st.
On Tuesday, September 25th, the JV Volleyball team faced a tough serving Valhalla team and suffered its second loss of the season. Sleepy Hollow stumbled out of the gates with numerous serve errors to begin the game. In spite of the tough play from freshmen, Melissa Lamson-Lindsey and Whanda Camacho, the team could not overcome its poor service receive and service errors. The team hopes to rebound against Hastings on September 28th.
On Friday, September 21st, the JV Volleyball team travelled to Irvington and came away with a 2 – 0 victory. With strong serving from co-captains, Jessie Briante and Ryanne Galante, the team surged to an early lead and never relinquished it. Lauren Vallo and Clare Johnson, both new setters, have done a terrific job in running the offense and setting up their teammates. The team currently has a 3 – 1 record.
On Friday, September 14th, the JV Volleyball team won its second game of the season by easily defeating Tuckahoe, two games to none. Junior Kimberly Quispe’s solid passing and sophomore Ryanne Galante’s tough serves fueled Sleepy Hollow to the win. The team was inspired by the words of varsity co-captains, Abbey Titcomb and Breanne Tuohy, as well as the varsity team’s earlier victory. The team hopes to come back from a long break with a win against Irvington on Friday, September 21st.
On Wednesday, September 12th, the JV Volleyball team travelled to Woodlands HS and claimed its first victory of the season. In spite of the early season jitters and nervous energy, the leadership of the returning players, in particular, Xiara Rodriguez and Rosani Jimenez, helped to calmed the girls. Facing a tough serving Woodlands team, the Horsemen played solid defense and were able to win 2 games to none.
On Thursday, September 6th, the JV Volleyball team lost its home opener against Ursiline HS. With most of its starters moving up to the varsity team this season, this was the first start of most of the JV players. Lauren Vallo and Betty Capellan started as setters running a 4-2 offense. Kimbery Quispe started as libero, playing backrow of new middle freshmen, Sasha Smirnova and Melissa Lamson-Lindsey. This year, the team is led by co-captains, Jessie Briante and Ryanne Galante, both returning players. The team has a lot of young players and will inevitably face some growing pains, but the girls are remaining positive and look forward to a great season.
