October 21st – on October 21st, the JV volleyball team lost is final game of the season against a determined Dobbs Ferry team. Although both sets were very close, Sleepy Hollow was on the losing end of both games – 25-23 and 26-24. Lauren Vallo was the setter for the third straight game and continued to show improvement. The outside hitters – Shaylin Best and Katy Kochnowski – both played solid games. Maggie Miles also played a good game playing both outside hitter and setter; she shows great potential as a volleyball player. The girls were upset at the loss, particulary to an opponent they had defeated earlier in the season. However, the girls are determined to learn from the experience and devote themselves to improving and working during the off season. The Sleepy Hollow jv team had a great season finishing with a record of 7 – 3.

October 18th – the Sleepy Hollow jv volleyball team began Spirit Week with a victory over the much-improved Irvington Bulldogs. The girls got off to a fast start behind the strong serving of Shaylin Best and Johanna Cepeda. Johanna started out as a setter, but she has found her niche as the Libero which better suits her energy and aggressive style. Ryanne Galante also contributed with her consistent serves and play. After jumping out to an early lead, the girls did not let up and continued to play hard easily winning the first game 25-15. Clare Johnson and Lauren Vallo made their debut as setters and did a fine job. The team has shown a tremendous work ethic and a desire to improve. The team is currently 6 – 2 with losses only to Ardsley HS.

On Tuesday, October 11th, the Lady Horsemen volleyball team took a loss to Tuckahoe, but it wasn’t without a fight as they took 1 game to 2. A loss doesn’t mean they didn’t play well….this team improved tremendously with passing and serving. Serving very strong for the team were Nyja Jamison, Kriselys Adames, Jurnee Reid and D’Avionne Russell who not only tied us in the 3rd match but took us into the lead and scored the winning point. The jv volleyball team improved its record to 5 – 1 this season with a win over Irvington on Thursday, October 6th. Shaylin Best got the team off to a fast start with her strong serves. Maggie Miles did an excellent job setting the ball and getting everyone involved. Clare Johnson played well at the net as the off-setter. Xiara Rodriguez was a real leader on and off the court, and dominated the net, both as a middle hitter and as a blocker. In spite of a few mental lapses, the Horsemen easily won the first game 25 – 16. The second game was much closer until Sleepy Hollow rallied late to cruise to a 25 – 19 win. Sleepy Hollow next faces Ardsley, the team that has given the jv team its only loss of the season.
