Varsity Wrestling

On Tuesday, January 31st, the Sleepy Hollow varsity wrestling team faced their toughest opponent, Croton Harmon. Sleepy Hollow won by a final score of 36-36 for a record of 15-6. Sleepy won because the team had more wins. Seniors, Edison Urgiles, Juan Pablo Loja, Gabe Palacios, and Gabe Gonzalez all won their last dual match. Gabe Palacios won by pinfall; Juan Pablo Loja, Edwin Jimenez, Steven Bencosme, JP Ospina, Csaurel Clarke, and  Gabe Gonzalez won by decisions; Edison Urgiles won by forfeit. This Saturday, February 4th, the Sleepy Hollow Wrestling team will go to divisionals. Anyone who places in fourth or higher will advance to Sectionals.

It was eerily quiet on Thursday, January 26th when the Sleepy Hollow varsity wrestling team fought an away match at White Plains. Sleepy Hollow crushed their opponent by a score of 53-24. Teddy Voyer, Edison Urgiles, and Frank Curanaj won by forefeit. Juan Pablo Loja, Kevin Ortiz and Gabe Palacios won by decision. Loja and Ortiz majored their matches. Edwin Jimenez, Steven Bencosme, Jean-Paul Ospina, and Csaurel Clarke all pinned their opponents. Bencosme won his match in a mere 12 seconds. As Sleepy goes to the Super 16 on Saturday, January 28th, everyone has a chance to drastically improve their record.

Varsity Wrestling

On Thursday January 19th, MSG Varsity filmed the Sleepy Hollow varsity Wrestling team as they faced off against Scarsdale. Sleepy brought their record up to a respectable 8-6 by winning 42-36. Winning by pins were Chris Lazo, Csaurel Clarke, and Nate Christian. Ramon Rodriguez and Frank Curanaj would win by forfeit. Juan Pablo Loja, Steven Bencosme, Gabe Palacios and Kevin Ortiz won by decisions. Palacios, Jimenez, and Bencosme continue to utterly dominate Section I. Sleepy goes into the Croton tournament and looks to improve their soaring record on Sunday, January 22nd.

On Thursday, January 12th, the Sleepy Hollow varsity wrestling team went to Eastchester. There they won by a monumental score of 56-24 for their first winning record of the season: 7-6. Winning by pins were Juan Pablo Loja with one second on the clock, Edwin Jimenez, Steven Bencosme (19 seconds in), Kevin Ortiz with two seconds on the clock, JP Ospina, and Gabe Palacios. Gabe Gonzalez, Evan Meireles, Chris Hutter, and Frank Curanaj won by forfeit. Palacios and Bencosme continue their amazing 13-0 stretch. Sleepy goes to the Yonkers tournament on Saturday, January 14th and has the chance to go 10-6.

On January 10th, the Sleepy Hollow varsity wrestling team defeated Mount Vernon at home by a whopping score of 66-15. This win logs in as number 6 for a .500 winning percentage. Winning by forfeits were Ramon Rodriguez, Matt Dorazio, Edison Urgeles, Juan Pablo Loja, Steven Bencosme, Gabe Palacios, Csaurel Clarke, and Frank Curanaj. Winning by decisions were Edwin Jimenez by a score of 7-1, and Kevin Ortiz who won 8-7. Gabe Gonzalez won by pinfall. P alacios and Bencosme continue their amazing 12-0 stretch while Jimenez is close behind at 11-1.  Sleepy goes to Eastchester on Thursday, January 12th and will fight as hard as we can to obtain a winning record.

On January 5th, the Sleepy Hollow Varsity Wrestling team won an exciting match against Mamaroneck with a final score of 37-43. Sleepy logged in their 5th win for a record of 5-6. Winning by pinfall were Juan Pablo Loja and Gabe Palacios. Winning by technical by a final score of 16-0 was Edwin Jimenez. Winning by a decision was Kevin Ortiz. And winning by forefiets were Steven Bencosme, Chris Hutter, and Nate Christian. Palacios and Bencosme remain undefeated with records of 11-0 while Jimenez remains strong at 10-1. As Sleepy faces Mt. Vernon at home next week, one can wonder if Sleepy will be 6-6 or plummet down to 5-7.

Modified Wrestling

The Sleepy Hollow modified wrestling team openned their season traveling to Edgemont on Tuesday, January 3rd. This year’s team is filled with a core of youth, having 24 of their 28 wrestlers either new to the sport or in 7th grade. The team faced two experienced teams, Edgemont and New Rochelle and came out of the match with a new sense of pride. With much of the season ahead of them, the young team has much success to look forward to. Standouts for the Horsemen were JC, Jon G, Liam O, and Alex C. The Horsemen travel to Scarsdale on January 4th for a dual team scrimmage.

Sleepy Hollow Turns Around, Tuesday, December 20, 2011 – When the Sleepy Hollow Varsity Wrestling team went through the doors, it sent a spark throughout the entire gymnasium. Winning by pinfall were Edwin Jimenez, Steven Bencosme, Edwin Lopez, JP Ospina, Csaurel Clarke, Chris Hutter, Frank Curanaj and Gabe Gonzalez. Winning by technical was Juan Pablo Loja by a score of 17-1! Winning by a decision was Gabe Palacios. Both Bencosme and Palacios have perfect records of 10-0 while Edwin Lopez has a record of 9-1. Chris Hutter logged in his second varsity win. As Sleepy Hollow closes with a win and a 4-6 record, one can only imagine how far they can go. Our next match is on Thursday, January 5th at Mamaroneck.

Modified Wrestling

Modified wrestling participates in annual Westlake Extravaganza!
The Sleepy Hollow Modified Boys wrestling team traveld to Westlake on Saturday January 22nd for the annual Westlake Modified Extravaganza. This event allows the wrestlers to compete against schools from across the section. Each wrestler received 3 matches. The event was highlighted by by the 3-0 record by Evans M. In addition, several wretlers finished the day 2-1. 8th grade standouts Jack M., and Jack S. received many praises by the local coaches for their work ethic, sportsmanship, and skill.

Modified wrestling hosts Fox Lane:
Sleepy Hollow hosted Fox lane on Monday January 24th. The match was highlighted by a spectacular day by 7th grade student Liam O. His 2 victories were over two very skilled wrestlers. Join the team next week as we host Mamaroneck on Tuesday February 1st and Ossining and Pleasantville on Wednesday February 2nd.

Modified Wrestling

On Monday, January 10th, the modified wrestling team traveled to Westlake to face a very strong program. In another successful day, the Sleepy Hollow team finished with a combined record of 13 wins and 4 loses. The team was led by newcomer John G. who won 2 matches by pin. Please join us on Wednesday, January 12th as we visit Mamaroneck (weather permitting) or Friday, January 14th as the team travels to Byram Hills.
