On Saturday, January 16, 2010, Sleepy Hollow’s Wrestling team attended the annual Yonkers Tournament at Yonkers High School. Attending the tournament were many strong teams, including the top ranked team in the state, John Glenn. Sleepy Hollow started the tournament off well, having most of the team reach the semi finals. But in the semis the Horsemen had difficulty. John Glenn managed to knock all our wrestlers out of the semifinals. The best finish that the Horsemen had was by Pete Delmonaco and Edison Tenesaca who both finished third. Although that wasn’t the best performance we’ve seen from the Horsemen this year they have a chance to make up for it on Wednesday, January 20th when the Horsemen wrestle at home against New Rochelle for the League Championship. Come show your support and cheer the team to a victory.

The Horsemen defeated Ossining by a score of 58-24. Sleepy Hollow got out to an early lead, winning their first 6 matches. However Ossining wasn’t going down without a fight winning the next 4 matches to bring the score to 31-24 in favor of Sleepy Hollow. Sleepy then closed the match winning 5 in a row. On Friday December 18th and Saturday December 19th, Sleepy Hollow Wrestling traveled to Yorktown High School where Yorktown hosted a two day dual meet wrestling tournament. On the first day Sleepy Hollow lost their first match to #1 seeded John Jay CR. The Horsemen wrestled hard against a tough John Jay losing by only 6 points. The Horsemen however put the loss behind them and got back into the winning mindset defeating Croton, Hen Hud, Westlake, and Edgemont to reach the match for 3rd and 4th place where they would wrestle a tough Somers team. The match came down to the wire with Steven Bencosme wrestling at 125 (a weight class above his usual 119). Steven’s opponent got out to what looked to be an insurmountable lead until Steven reversed him and put him to his back where he held him for the pin, winning the match for Sleepy Hollow and bringing home the 3rd place trophy. The Horsemen’s next match will be Monday, December 21, 2009 home against Mount Vernon. Come out and support our Wrestling team who have been doing a great job this year.
