8th Grade Modified Boys’ Basketball Rebounds

The 8th Grade Boy’s Basketball team rebounded yesterday after two consecutive tough losses to Suffern and undefeated Tappan Zee. The boys traveled to their border rival, Irvington, and defeated them handily 68-22. Every player on the Sleepy Hollow basketball team got into the action yesterday, netting a season-high 68 points on the board. Sleepy Hollow scoring was as follows: Harley Falasca 15, Tommy Fahey 13, Frank Curnaj 11, Jack Centra 10, Freddie Bertrand 8, Ronny Rodriguez 8, Nick Vallo 2, and Mike Vlacco 1,

GIRLS VARSITY BEATS YONKERS

The Sleepy Hollow girls’ basketball team upended Yonkers High School by a score of 58 - 50 on Monday, 1/28/08.  The girls had a balanced scoring attack with 8 different girls scoring.  They were led by Breya Lane’s 22 points.  Brionna Gamble chipped in 16 including 2 three pointers.  Jackie Mottola added 8 points with 2 three pointers of her own.  The varsity’s newest member of the team, Jamie Bucci added her first three varsity points.  Our next game is Wednesday, 1/30/08, against Irvington at the Sleepy Hollow High School gym. GAME POSTPONED

The Saturday game against Pearl River has been postponed until February 4th due to the death of a former Pearl River hockey player.

Boys’ varsity basketball had a big win 58-56 against Byram Hills on Monday. With 3 seconds to go, Justin Best hit a 20 foot jump shot to win the game.
The entire team played with tremendous heart. Coach Buckley’s boys pulled off a huge win, all of them contributing to the team’s success.
Justin Best, Spencer White with 14 points in the 4th quarter and Jamel Lyde led the Horsemen in scoring. Trent Bronner, Nick Genua, Kevin Igwe and Ron Bertrand were also instrumental in our team’s success.
Next game is away, Friday, January 25th against the league leaders, Pearl River, at 7PM. Come support our team!

LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday, the boys’ indoor track team competed in the League Championships at Rockland Community College. John Pardo recorded a personal best in the 55m as well as Will McCabe in the 800m. The boys 4 x 800m relay team raced 4th in a time of 10:00.1.

ANOTHER WIN FOR SLEEPY HOLLOW WRESTLERS

Sleepy Hollow wrestling team won the 32nd Annual Croton Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, January 19th. There were 14 teams entered from Westchester, Rockland, New York City and Section XI from Long Island.
Sleepy Hollow had seven wrestlers in the finals with 4 champions.
1st place champions: 135-David Martinez, 152-John Bonanno, 160-Ryan Tompkins, 215-Connor Tomkins.
2nd place:140-Pete Delmonaco, 152-Ron Bucci, 171-Gili Bauer-Moshi.
3rd place:163-Mark Pena, 119–Jay Concepcion, 130-Dondrey Sharrock.
4th place:112-Chris Lopez, 145-Wilson Gonzalez.

David Martinez was voted most outstanding sophmore and Connor Tompkins won the Quick Pin Award with a 8 second pin in the semi-finals.

A Great Day For Girls’ Track

Congratulations to the girls track team for their outstanding performance at yesterday’s league meet @ RCC. Genevieve Ruppel placed 1st in the long jump and 3rd in the 55 meters. Andrea Geiger placed 2nd in the 55 meters and 2nd in the 300 meters. The girls 800 meter relay team, Andrea Geiger, Gabby Cellante, In-Hye Erstling, and Genevieve Ruppel, placed 2nd. Kathy Perez placed 2nd and received her personal best in the shot put. Congratulations to all athletes!

Tough Loss to Albertus Magnus

 Varsity Boy’s Basketball lost another tough one last night at Albertus Magnus. With the absence of Jamel Lyde & Mike Leeper, many players had to fill in some big shoes. Spencer White ended the game with 17 points while Trent Bronner left the game early due to foul trouble with 14 points. Justin Best led all scorers with the team high of 19 points. Kyle Chavis and Ron Bertrand dropped in 2 points each in the tough defeat to Albertus Magnus 67-54.

Sleepy Hollow Wrestling Clinches Rivalry Win

The Sleepy Hollow varsity wrestling team won a big match over a very determined Ossining team in yesterday’s dual match. The Horsemen’s ” Secret Weapon” Edison Tenesacca clinched the victory with a first period pin to lead the Horsemen to a 43-36 victory. This epic match brought back a huge rivarly in Section One wrestling which the Horsemen hope to keep in their favor.

8th GRADE BOYS’ BASKETBALL THRILLER

The 8th grade Sleepy Hollow Basketball team (3-1) yesterday won 46-41 in an overtime thriller against Pearl River. It was a tight game from the beginning to end with neither team leading by more than 6 points at any one time. At the end of the 4th quarter and throughout the overtime period, the Horsemen established a full-court press which pressured the Pirates into 3 turnovers leading to 6 Horsemen points.

The story of the game was defense. In the first half, the Horsemen had a difficult time slowing down the Pirates. Ater some halftime adjustments, the Horsemen defense began to clamp down, which ultimately decided their fate.

Tommy Fahey led all scorers with 17 points. Ronny Rodriguez had 15, Harley Falasca 12, Frank Curanaj 7, Austin Siegel 2, Jack Centra 2, and Nick Vallo with 1.

The Horsemen will travel across the bridge again on Thursday to face Nanuet.
