First League Win in Four Years
Monday, January 14th, 2008The Sleepy Hollow Girls Basketball team won its first league game in four years on Friday night by beating the Hastings Yellow Jackets 58-52. The girls were down by 5 at halftime but did a remarkable job of hard work and hustle to come out into the third quarter and outscore Hastings 18 - 6. Things got a little tense towards the end as Hastings cut a 9 point lead down to three but Hastings had no answer for Tauress Campbell as she hit a key free throw in the final minute. Tauress ended the game with 13 points. Jackie Mottola also hit an important free throw late in the game and led all scorers with 15. Hollows’ balanced scoring attack was also helped with 8 points from Brionna Gamble, 7 from Breya Lane and 7 points from Jill Vallo who has missed the last three weeks (two games) with a knee injury. Kerry Oliveira also had a key role off the bench with 6 points and many important rebounds.
The girls league season continues in Nanuet on Monday and at Albertus Magnus on Wednesday. We look to be competitive for the rest of our league schedule as we play in one of the toughest leagues in all of Section 1 girls basketball. Thank you for your continued support.
