Varsity Field Hockey

Sleepy Hollow Varsity Field Hockey won it’s first game on Friday in a win over rival Pelham 4-3.  Sleepy Hollow was ahead 2-0 at the half, while Pelham answered back in the second half.  Each team kept answering with another goal until Emily Mottola scored the winning goal with 11:40 left in the game. Dara Brennan, Leah Morales, and Emily Mottola each had a goal to push the Horsemen ahead.  Jen Angevine led with 2 assists, and Valentina Guzzo & Sophie Parens each had an assist.  The Sleepy Hollow defense held strong including Chelsea Keeney & Daniela Uribe in goal, and Andrea Alvarez, Valentina Guzzo, Alee Praino, Gabby Cellante, Eva Kramer, Gianna Volpe, and Leah Morales.  Their record extends to 1-1-4.  The girls face Pearl River at home Monday, September 22nd at 4:15pm.

JV Field Hockey

On Thursday, September 19th, the JV Field Hhockey team lost to Nanuet 4-2. Ashley Smutek scored the team’s first two goals of the season- one on a breakaway, and the second on a corner. Overall the team played well; each member is showing day to day improvement. Our next game is on Friday, September 20th at home vs. Pelham at 6pm. Go Horsemen!

Varsity Swimming

SHEDI came out with their second win on Wednesday, September 17th at Marymount college against Harrison. It was a close meet in the first half, but SHEDI managed to pull ahead in the final four events and finish with a score of 92-76. Alexia Boumis placed 3rd in the 50 free and 2nd in the 200 freestyle. Come on out to Marymount pool this coming Monday, September 22nd as SHEDI takes on Ardsley!!

On Tuesday, September 16th Sleepy Hollow field hockey fell to putnam valley 3 to 0. The team played a strong second half maintaining 0 to 0 score for the half. Chelsea Keeney and newcomer Daniela Uribe played a great game in goal. The Horsemen will face Nanuet on Thursday, September 18th at 415pm at Nanuet.

JV Field Hockey

On Tuesday, September 16th the JV field hockey team played its best game yet. Playing with only ten on the field, the team held Putnam Valley to a score of only 1-0. Mary Dunwoody had over six saves in her first game as goalie. Jocelyn Leon and Jessica Cabrera played very well at midfield and on defense. Every member of the team shined! Our next game is on Thursday, September 18th at Nanuet.

Varsity Girls’ Soccer

The girls’ varsity soccer team experienced their first loss of the the season against Eastchester on Tuesday, September 16th. The Final score was 3-7. Sleepy did not go down without a fight though. The score at the half was 0-2 Eastchester, within six minutes of the second half the lady horsemen tied up the score! Later in the second half Eastchester managed to squeeze past the defense several times. But Sleepy finished the game strong, managing to drop in one more goal in the final few moments of the game. The girls’ next game is Wednesday, September 17th at Byram Hills.

Varsity Cross Country

On Tuesday, Septembe 16th, the boys’ and girls’ Cross Country teams competed at Albertus Magnus. Once again, Will McCabe led the way for the Horsemen placing 1st overall. Alex Berger was close placing 3rd overall. Christian Zolbe, Jake Von Heill, and Tom Von Heill were 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively for the Horsemen. The boys won 21-36. On the girls’ side, Katherine Doyle remains undefeated by placing first in dominating fashion. Sophie Simon, Victoria Nadile, Nicole Rjeili and Samantha Palazzi placed 2nd - 5th for the Lady Horsemen. The girls also won 15-50. Our next meet is Tuesday, September 23rd at Rockwood Hall. Come out and support the Cross Country team.

The SHEDI swim team is off to a fast start! They beat the Mamaroneck tigers yesterday 92-72. Top swims included 8th grader Danielle Carissima’s 3rd place finish in the 200 Individual medley, freshman Alexia Boumis’s tie for 3rd in the 50 free, and 10th grader Kerry Oliveira’s 2nd place finish in the 100 Breast stroke. Come on down to Marymount pool as SHEDI takes on Harrison on Wednesday, September 17th at 4:30pm.

JV Boys’ Soccer

Congratulations to the JV boys’ soccer team with their victory over Westlake 5-4! Goals were scored by Michael Diaz, TJ Kent, Mark Sanchez, and Ryan Higgins. Let’s go HORSEMEN! Our next game is on Friday, September 19th at Hastings.

JV Field Hockey

On Thursday, September 11th the JV Field Hockey team played its first game against North Salem. Although not victorious, the JV team held North Salem to only two goals. Overall, the team played very well! Chloe Smercak and Ashley Smutek led the team as center midfielders throughout the duration of the game.

On Saturday, September 13th the team faced a greater challenge at Pleasantville High School. While the team lost for a second time, each member played for the entire game. As a team the girls are making great progress. As goalie, Daniela Uribe had eight saves! Our next game is on Tuesday, September 16th at 4:30 at home vs. Putnam Valley.
