			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong><font face="Times New Roman">What makes an authorâ€™s work come alive?Â  How does an author use his or her imagination to discover new ways of thinking about the world?Â  What helps the authorâ€™s voice to be heard?Â  One way is by using language in creative and unusual ways.Â  This creative word play is known as figurative language.Â  </font><font face="Times New Roman">Ms. Carty and Mrs. Elmoreâ€™s ELA sixth grade students know three things for sure.Â  Students know that the use of figurative language, colorful language and the incorporation of vocabulary help an authorâ€™s words â€œleap off the page.â€Â  </font><font face="Times New Roman">As a culminating activity, the students worked in cooperative groups to create impressive PowerPoint presentations.Â  Students wrote about the ins and outs of literary devices and techniques authors use to make their writing more exciting.Â  Whatâ€™s that?Â  What did you ask?Â  Just how do they do it, you ask?Â  Yes, of course, thatâ€™s rightâ€¦creatively and â€œfiguratively!â€Â  Enjoy the presentations.</font></strong></p>
