The Polar Express
Willa’s Version

One night on Christmas Eve I had a dream about a book I had read that evening. It was called “The Polar Express.” I loved it and I was wishing to be like the boy in the book. As I was thinking I heard a sound…

It was a sound I had never heard at night! It was the sound of a train! I looked out the window and there it was- The Polar Express! The conductor stepped out and motioned for me to come to him. I couldn’t resist. I dashed down the stairs, put on my shawl and slippers and ran outside…

The conductor asked if I wanted to come. “Are you coming or not” I hopped on and sat down. I was so excited because it was the first time I had gone to the North Pole. When we got there we all ran out. We saw so many elves. Santa Claus came out of the crowd. He pointed at me and said, “How about this girl here to come and pick the first gift of Christmas?”

I said I wanted one of his bells. He gave me a big hug and cut a bell off of one of the reindeer. When we got to my house I waved goodbye and ran upstairs. THE END.

Wow Willa, this is such a fun version of the Polar Express! You did a fantastic job borrowing some of the authors ideas and turning them into your own creative details. I love the beginning and the idea of making this all a wonderful dream! You are becoming such a talented author. You should be very proud of yourself!

    Dear Willa,

This is so beautiful! I especially like “I couldn’t resist” and the image of you in your shawl and slippers. Keep on writing. I love you. Mommy

    Dear Willa,
You do a wonderful job of recalling and retelling a story adding your own unique details. I remember taking turns with you doing this at Christmas time. You immediately grabbed the reader’s attention with your introduction (or lead) and held it all the way through with your colorful words. You are becoming a wonderful author.
    Love,
    Nana

    Dear Willa,

What a wonderful recreation of The Polar Express you’ve written. I love your original ideas and the the color and movement of your words: how you “dashed up” and “hopped on”. I could see your shawl flying in the wind. You made it an exciting story. No wonder Santa gave you that silver bell. Bravo.

    Love, Yiayia
