The Polar Express
The Polar Express
Will’s Version
One Christmas night I was laying in my bed. My friends said that Santa Claus was not real but I knew they were wrong. I heard the noise of a car passing but when it stopped I smelled smoke. So, I put on my slippers and I went outside. It was a train.
The conductor said, “Are you coming to the North Pole?” I was confused but I always wanted to go there so I said, “Yes.” I napped on the train. I saw kids drinking hot cocoa with melted chocolate bars. Then here’s where it gets interesting…
The window opened and a kid fell out. He fell face first in the snow. He chased the train and jumped on it. He found a hole and jumped into it. The train sped faster and faster! It never stopped. Then, in the distance, we saw the North Pole! The kids were excited. So was I!
Millions of elves covered the whole North Pole. They were wearing green and red suits. We barely fit so we squeezed in. We saw Santa. He said, “How about this young fellow here gets the first gift of Christmas?” My friends cheered! So, I sat on Santa’s lap and he said “What do you want for Christmas?” I wanted tons of things but what I really wanted was Santa’s coat and hat. So he said, “You can have mine.” He gave them to me. “I will make a new one.” I was so excited!
When we got back on the train the kids all wanted to see his suit! I said, “I forgot! I had it in my hands! Kids were sad and I was very sad. But the train was at my house so I got off with nothing but me.
This morning me and my brother Owen opened our presents. Then I saw a little present. I opened it. It was Santa’s suit and I was so happy!!! It looked perfect. Then there was a note:
WILL L.-
I FOUND THIS AT THE NORTH POLE. HERE.
-MR. C
P.S- KEEP TRACK OF THINGS!!!
I showed the suit to my parents, but they did not see anything. It’s only visible to people who believe in Santa.
That’s my version of the Polar Express. THE END.

Will,
Your story was so creative and fun to read. I felt SCARED (when the kid fell off the train), SAD(when you lost the suit), and HAPPY- you even made me laugh out loud when I read the note from Santa “Keep track of things!”
You are turning into such a wonderful author! You should be very proud.

Hi Will,
I loved the story. Non-stop, hair-raising action. You kept me on the edge of my seat. I like the fact that you wanted Santa’s suit, instead of the bell, and that you follwed through to the next morning. Also, that you personalized the story by adding “Keep Track of Things”. Good job!
