A Personification Poem By Brianna, Will, Chris

Uuuuummmmm! I’m hungry for dinner!
Someone please turn me on!
Click.
Finally! I’m on!
I’m sliding on the rug like an ice skater.
I’m looking for crumbs
Hunting and searching with my eagle eyes on the hunt.
Wait! There are some crumbs in the corner!
“I’m full!”
Please empty my stomach.
I need surgery!

An Onomatopoeia Poem by Lena, Chris, Willa, Brianna, Payge

Click, Clack go the jump ropes when they hit the ground.
Pow, pow go the balls when they bounce.
Knock, knock go the hula hoops
when they bump into the other children.

“Aaaaahhhhh!!!”
go the children when they are playing tag.
Boom! Bang! “I got you!” say the children playing 4 square.
“Ha, ha you missed me!” say the children when they get dodged.

“Ooooooohhhhh…”
Go the children when it’s time to go back in.

By Malik, Christian, Elina

The Ishangi family dancers have lots of instruments to play. The drums have a strong beat. The little kids use the drum sticks to bang on the drums. The adults play hard and fast using drum sticks or their hands. They use animal skins and wood to make their drums. The women carry gourd shakers to different places because it is light. A gourd shaker is a squash that is dried for 6 months. There is a net with beads and when you rub it against the surface it makes a sound. Another instrument is the bells on their feet. Each bell bracelet represents 1 person in their family.

The Ishangi family instruments help play different sounds and beats. Music is very important to the people of Ghana.

A Memoir by Christian

When I was playing baseball the guy threw the ball and it hit my tooth.

It hurt a lot! I fell in the sand in the park. I caught the ball and threw it to first base. The guy was out. “We won!”

I went to look for my tooth. It looked just like the sun so I put it in my pocket.

It looked like the sun because the blood and sand turned it orangey and it mixed with the sand. It looked cool so I thought, “Let me put it in my pocket and under my pillow.”

But the next day I forgot and I put it in the wash!
