Snow Plow
A Personification Poem By Elina, Noel, Chris, Jared

It cleans up the streets
like people on Earth Day.

It rumbles
like a hungry stomach.

It gulps snow…
“Gullllpp!”

It rakes
like neighbors in fall.

It has a big, yellow snout
like a monster.

“HUNGRY FOR MORE!” says the snowplow.

Kittens
An Onomatopoeia Poem by Elina

Oh! The kitten was born.
“Meow!” “Meow!” goes the kitten wanting food.
“Hiss!” the kitten hunts.
“Shhh, shh” a kitten is sleeping.

Musical Instruments from the Ishangi Family

March 22nd, 2008

By Malik, Christian, Elina

The Ishangi family dancers have lots of instruments to play. The drums have a strong beat. The little kids use the drum sticks to bang on the drums. The adults play hard and fast using drum sticks or their hands. They use animal skins and wood to make their drums. The women carry gourd shakers to different places because it is light. A gourd shaker is a squash that is dried for 6 months. There is a net with beads and when you rub it against the surface it makes a sound. Another instrument is the bells on their feet. Each bell bracelet represents 1 person in their family.

The Ishangi family instruments help play different sounds and beats. Music is very important to the people of Ghana.

I Love My Winter

I Love My Winter
By Elina

I see families sleighing
My sister fell in a bush.
“Mommy, I’m stuck under here!”

“Dun, Dun, Dun…”
The cold wind is blowing in my face.

My sister and I are eating marshmallows
”Yummmmm”
Fluffy white- my favorite!

Mom is cooking fresh cookies
“Yummm… my favorite
I smell the steam from the stove.

“Crunch, Crunch”
My snow suit is moving in the snow.

The Polar Express

The Polar Express
Elina’s Version

I was sleeping and I heard a train. “TOOT!” I got out of bed and went to the door. I walked out and the conductor asked, “Do you want to go on the train?” I said yes.

I got on the train and I went over the hills and in the woods and I arrived at the North Pole! I saw Santa Claus. I asked if I could go with him on his sleigh. He gave me the bell that fell off his sleigh.

I got back on the train and the train took me home. The bell was in my pocket. I asked my mom if she believes in Santa. She said yes. “Then you can hear the bell!” I said. THE END.

My Trip to Pennsylvania

December 9th, 2007

A Memoir by Elina

I remember a time when I went to Pennsylvania. I was five years old. It took a long time to get there! I played video games and I fell asleep for four hours.

When I got there we went to Sesame Street Place. I was with my cousin, my sister, and my aunt and my mom.

Sesame Street Place is a theme park that has water rides and dry rides. I went on lots of rides.

My favorite ride was the Rubber Ducky ride. The line was soooo long. We told someone so we can go on the ride faster.

I took pictures with Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Big Bird.

I ate hot dogs and ice cream and my sister ate a cheeseburger and ice cream and my cousin ate a hot dog too.

It was dark so we had to go back to the hotel. When we got there we fell asleep. I dreamed that I was with my dad.
