By Will, Willa, Jimmy, Lena

We saw a show with people from Ghana, Africa. They were the Ishangi family dancers. We are writing more to tell you about their heritage. The schools are very small and kids have to work a lot. Kids come in early to clean up the school because there are no custodians. Something interesting is the older kids carry their desks home on school vacations so they don’t get stolen. Most people in Ghana’s schools can’t afford food or lunch so people serve food for them. People in Ghana grow crops to get food. They also eat rice.

After school kids play lots of simple games. They have no electricity so they can’t play any electronic games. One of the games is the bottlecap game. You win by flicking your bottlecap onto your opponent’s bottlecap. They play volleyball and pretend there is a net. There is a season where it hardly rains so kids play games in the shade.

Another thing we learned from the Ishangi Family Dancers and their heritage is they sing and dance when they do chores. We learned a lot form the Ishangi family dancers.

By Lena

“Whoosh!”
Skaters are so awesome and pretty.
I want to be a skater when I grow up too!
They jump and leap so well!

“Scratch!” Hearing people shoveling
It sounds rough and hard and sounds like pavement
It’s frustrating to do.

Mmmm… the hot cocoa that mom just made
with marshmallows taste so delicious!
It melts in my mouth!
“YUM! YUM! YUM!”

I smell smoke from the fire and it burns in my fireplace.
It doesn’t smell so great though.
It’s a really smokey smell!

“Brrrr” The snow is so cold and shiny and soft.
“Splat!” goes the snowball
Crashing at my feet.

The Polar Express
Lena’s Version

I heard a sound of a train outside my house! I ran outside to see it. A conductor was there I asked him where the train went. He said it went to the North Pole. He said the train was called The Polar Express.

When we got there I saw lots of elves gathering. Then, I saw Santa Claus. He came over to us and pointed to me! I sat on his lap. He asked me, “What do you want for Christmas?” I thought then I said that I wanted a dress that had the same design. It was a beautiful dress.

I wore it on Christmas morning and it was a great Christmas! THE END.

My memory is about a special day when I went to New York City with my mom, dad, my sister, and my brother. It was so awesome!

I hear the beeps of traffic and I could see lots of people and little peanut or hot dog stands around me! I smell the smoke from cigarettes.

We went to a carpet shop to see some carpets. I saw a silver one and it was really awesome.

Then we went to lunch! We had Chinese food. YUM! I ordered dumplings and pasta. It was delicious!

After that, we just went walking around some more. I love to walk around New York City. It was a fabulous day.
