A Personification Poem By Willa, Leslie, Malik, Jimmy

The lawnmower chomps up grass
and gulps it down.
“I want more!”

“I have no food in my empty tummy!”
“I want more food!”

It has a long nose like an anteater
which it sniffs up long grass with.
“Vrrrooom, sniff, vrrrrooom, sniff!”

It runs really fast
down the front and back lawn.
Vroom, vroom- racing like a roller skater.

It angrily steps on flowers
and when it leaves the flowers are gone.
It’s a clear, empty field or plain.

When it leaves
the tall grass is gone
and in its place there’s short, fresh, new lawn!

We went to see the Ishangi family presentation. They showed us stories from Ghana by dancing. It was so exciting to see the laundry dance because a little girl had a giant laundry bag balanced on her head! I was wondering if it was heavy or not. During one song that same girl did flips and cartwheels. They sang Che Che Koolay and did a dance. Che Che Koolay means to thank God for food and for clothes and other things. They also taught us how to do the love and family dance. In the family dance they passed love energy on and a girl stood on top of a woman. In the food dance the girl acts like she’s passing out seeds and they grow. She danced with a plate. At the end, one of the Ishangi women gave us good advice how we should live our lives. The most important thing was to stay in school and listen to your mom and dad and teachers.

“Hip, hip, hooray!” “Hip, hip, hooray!”

Hear bells ring and ring
when the dogs walk around the snow
It’s almost like a little tambourine on their necks.
And the cold blows a big blizzard “chich” “chich”

Taste gingerbread houses
like marshmallow roofs
“Yummy!” Mmmm…

Smell hot chocolate when you get cold
all warm and brown
“Yum! Yum!”

Touch ice so cold that your hands will freeze.
“Oh! Oh!”

Leslie’s Version

I went on the rain that is called the Polar Express. Then when me and kids got to the North Pole I got off the train. I saw 1000 elves but when I saw Mr. C I asked him for a hat that is like Santa Claus.’ But when I got home I lost my hat. I felt sad so me and the kids tried to find my hat. I went back to sleep at home and when I woke up I went to the living room to open my presents. I heard a bell ring two times and when I opened my presents and there was my hat. THE END.

I remember when it was my birthday and my dad and mom forgot that it was my birthday so I felt so sad that they forgot.

But then, my mom told my dad and she said to him, “We did not forget our daughter’s birthday!”

So I went to sleep and when I woke up my mom and dad came into my room and brought chocolate cake to me and then they sang “Happy Birthday.”

Then they gave me a hamster for my birthday!

I said, “You guys didn’t forget my birthday!” They said “No!” And I was so happy.
