Pencil Sharpener
A Personification Poem By Arianna and Payge

The pencil sharpener gulps up wood from the pencil.
YUM! YUM!
Pencil sharpener wants more. “I WANT MORE!”
The handle from the pencil sharpener rolls all around
Like a person somersaulting.
Pencil sharpener still isn’t full.
I shake and gobble up more pencil shavings.
YUM! YUM!
Now I am full… no more!
I spit it all out.

Recess

Recess
An Onomatopoeia Poem by Lena, Chris, Willa, Brianna, Payge

Click, Clack go the jump ropes when they hit the ground.
Pow, pow go the balls when they bounce.
Knock, knock go the hula hoops
when they bump into the other children.

“Aaaaahhhhh!!!”
go the children when they are playing tag.
Boom! Bang! “I got you!” say the children playing 4 square.
“Ha, ha you missed me!” say the children when they get dodged.

“Ooooooohhhhh…”
Go the children when it’s time to go back in.

The Ishangi Family

March 22nd, 2008

By Payge and Arianna

The main idea is about the favorite things of the Ishangi family and their people. The people balanced laundry on their heads. They are very good at balancing! We enjoyed the loud drums. They had lots of rhythm. They sang a song called Che Che Koolay. It is a good song about being thankful. The mom was talking to spirits. When the mother didn’t have energy the girl would dance and shake the maraca and the mother would get her energy from that. The mom was in a puffy African costume with a mask on to talk to spirits. The mom did cartwheels and tagged the girl and she did them.
We enjoyed the Ishangi family dancers from Ghana, Africa.

My Winter Adventures

My Winter Adventures
By Payge

Huge snowmen and snowwomen are being built
by children in the town park.

I hear happy children playing
winter games with best friends
“Take cover!” ZOOM!

Tasting delicious hot cocoa with marshmallows
melting in my mouth. “Mmmmm”
“Mom, what did you put in that?”

Smelling homemade cookies
melted with tiny chocolate chips.
“Delicious! I love these cookies!”

Ice skates on my feet heat my feet.
“shooow shooow”
It feels like I’m dancing on ice.

Going To Georgia

December 9th, 2007

A Memoir by Payge

I went to Georgia last summer and it took two whole days to drive there! “Mom… can I have a juicebox?” I asked during the ride.

At last we were there. “Hey Mom! There’s Brianna’s aunts house!” I said.

I met my cousin named Courtney. She is excited and goofy like me. Courtney has long brown hair. She is eight.

We went in the pool at the hotel. We played in the pool. “Splash!” We were laughing a lot. “Marco!” I said. “Polo!” said Courtney in the big pool. It was awesome playing water tag!

I joked all day and all night till I fell down. Joking is awesome to me every day and every night.

I can’t wait to spend more time there!
