Curriculum and Instruction
Our goals for this year at the elementary level have focused on providing an intensive on-site professional development program for teachers in the areas of English Language Arts and Math. We have contracted with the AUSSIE consulting group to provide demonstration lessons and coaching right in teachers’ classrooms. They recently presented a report on their work with English Language Arts at the March 22nd Board of Education meeting, which can still be viewed on our cable channel. They will be doing a presentation on their work with our math program at the April 12th Board meeting. We have also been utilizing our technology integration specialists to develop applications involving our new spelling and handwriting programs and our math program for use with the Smart Boards that have been installed in all of our grades 2 – 6 classrooms and some of our kindergarten and grade 1 classrooms.
The middle and high schools have embarked on a multi-year process of exploring what 21st century middle and high schools should look like. The have been reviewing research on best practices, reading the major national studies on school reform, and visiting model school programs. The high school principal will report on progress to date and future directions at our April 24th Board of Education meeting. The middle school principal will present a similar report at the May 3rd Board meeting.
