Creativity Fair A Huge Success !!!!

May 16th, 2007 by morsegazette

On May 17th, we had the opportunity to see what the Challenge Students have been researching for the last three months. They had been working hard, studying topics that interested them from China, Brazil and the United States. Each student chose one topic, learned how to narrow down his or her area of study and then research it. After the student had found all the information needed, he or she then need organized it into sections and figured out how to display it. Along with displaying the information, the students were asked to create a product that demonstrated something they had learned about their topics. Their work was AMAZING and they truly became experts about their topics!!!

Here are just some of their topics:

  • Rain Forest Animals and Trees
  • Ancient Chinese Warfare
  • Hillary Clinton
  • How Chocolate Becomes a Treat
  • The Game of MahJong and many more

Their work was displayed at the Creativity Fair in the Morse Gym to their fellow students, teachers, parents, community members and friends. It was a wonderful success!

Why Are We So Busy and What Can We Do About It?

Do you leave things behind when you are in a rush? Do you forget homework at school ? What should you do if that happens? Try not to break down. If you get very upset you can try to take a deep breath and think of a solution. Did you know that not just children have problems remembering things?

Some adults have trouble too. They might forget to bring extra paper to work. They can calm down just like us. How do you feel when you forget things at school? You can fix it by asking your Mom or an adult to drive you to school to pick up your work. Or the next day, ask your teacher if you can do your work now. How do you calm down? I calm down by taking a deep breath. If I forget my homework, I call my friend from my class to tell me what the homework was.

What are the things that make you so busy? I have to go to acting, ballet and drama and I can’t always fit my homework in. Some kids have sports and music lessons. Teachers are also busy. They have to worry about their normal lives and what to teach the next day. I asked Mrs. Restivo, how she keeps organized. She said, “I have an office that keeps my school work.” I then asked her, “On holidays, do you have to work or do you have time for yourself?” “I spend almost an hour every day on work and the rest on my life.” Next I asked her, “How much do you have to do in one day and what do you worry about most?” “I worry about how my students are safe.” “Do you get distracted by something you have that is exciting after school?” She said, “I keep my mind on what I am doing.”

Now that you know that everybody can be busy and you know some tricks of staying calm, I think you will do a pretty good job out in the big world. GOOD LUCK!

The Fire Evacuation at Morse

One day last month, we were working quietly when all of a sudden the fire bells started ringing! Our teachers led us outside. We were out there for ten minutes! The temperature was 14 degrees! Finally, we were led to the gym. Mrs. Vale said everything was all right, it was just something in a microwave that set the alarms off. I don’t understand why we had to stand outside for so long so I interviewed Mrs. Vale and asked her.

C:”Why did we have to stay outside so long?”

Mrs. V: “The firemen had to make sure that everything was o.k. before we went back in.”

C: “What would we have done if we didn’t go inside when we did?”

Mrs. V: “We would have gone to St. Theresa’s and dismissed from there.”

We are happy that nothing was seriously wrong, but those 10 minutes of huddling together and teeth chattering was unforgettable!
