Legends

by Kristen and Dominique

Do you believe in legends? There are legends from all around the world! There are silly ones from Africa, scary ones from NY and many more. But the neatest story that we know is “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!” Zoe says that the scariest character for her is the Headless Horseman because people say that every Halloween the Headless Horseman tries to steal heads from little children. Claire says that Ichabod Crane is funny because he has a big nose like Pinocchio. The authors of this article think Washington Irving is an awesome author. The Staff at the Old Dutch Church told Dominique that the headless horseman was really not so bad. In the Revolutionary War, a woman left her baby in a house that was on fire, and before the fire burned the baby, the headless horseman rescued that baby and put it on the front steps of the house next door.

There’s a legend in Brazil about a man who died in the winter, but his name was summer. When he died, he got buried in the snow. One day, when the summer came again, someone found him, but his hand had been chopped off. When they found the body, it was really warm. Also, his hand with a special ring had been cut off. The scientists that studied the body found his ring and discovered that when they removed the ring from the body’s hand, summer stayed forever.

Book Review

by Jake

If you like books with surprises, then MY HAIRIEST ADVENTURE by R.L. Stine is just the book for you! The story is about a boy named Larry. Dogs, for some odd reason, like to chase Larry on his way home from school. Another strange thing that happens to him is that he and his friends found a bottle that tans things, but when they put it on, nothing happened for the next few days. But then Larry saw some prickly black hair on the back of his hand.

One other thing is that he gets shots from a doctor every week but he does not know why. Larry is also in a band and when he plays in front of everybody, some kid says “cool special effects!” Larry runs off the stage because the hair grew on his face. When he gets home he shows his parents and they tell him he’s a dog!! I liked this book because it is written by my favorite author. I also like it because you never know what’s going to happen and it’s very weird.

Why We Will Miss Wyatt

by Griffin

One of our Morse Gazette writers is leaving us to move up-state New York. We will miss him because he is such a fun and funny person and always makes us laugh or smile. Here are some of the funny things we like about him: Wyatt likes “Zimbabwe” because he thinks the name is very attractive and he has never been there. He makes funny noises because “…it’s my job!” He breaks pencil tips to waste time and points out unimportant things because “they rock!” Wyatt loves to draw triangles on the chalk board because it makes him happy and he says he is so different because of the size of his brain. ??? He can be very scary, but mostly at home. He can be very funny, but mostly at school. We will miss him very much and wish him the best of luck in his new home and his new school. Please join us in saying good bye to him.
