My Ideal Holiday – by Nick

I wake up to the fresh smell of pine, which can only mean one thing… Christmas Eve. Yes, Christmas Eve is the best holiday at my house. To start the day, my family and I eat a delectable breakfast featuring eggs, bacon, French toast and waffles.

Later on in the day, we visit my cousin’s house. All of my cousins and I run outside in the ice cold weather and play a game of football, while Christmas dinner is being cooked. Dinner on Christmas Eve is like a 5 star dinner at a fancy restaurant. The food is delicious! We enter the warm house to the sound of “Dinner’s ready” and are excited to eat a savory meal. The aroma of fresh cooked ham fills the room. My Christmas Eve dinner includes cooked ham, mashed potatoes, green peas, chicken cutlets and hot rolls fresh from the oven.

After our feast, my cousins and I run downstairs and play Hide-and Go-Seek. When everybody is finished eating, we ascend upstairs and exchange gifts. We “fly” up the stairs like animals during a wild stampede, because we know it is time to tear open our gifts. I act as though I have never seen a gift before. I show off my new toys to my cousins and sister, and they, too, display their new toys proudly to me. After throwing away the remaining wrapping paper, the best part of Christmas Eve is awaiting us… dessert.

I dig into a steaming hot apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top. Then it is time for the cookies… Gingerbread men, sugared sprinkled cookies and double chocolate chip are just a sample of the cookies that I will devour ravenously. When we are finished with dessert, we say, “Merry Christmas” to everybody, and head home.

When we arrive home, it is pitch black outside. I go to sleep anxiously looking forward to Christmas day. I wake up at only 4:30 am. I try to go back to bed but I can’t because I’m too excited. It’s finally 7:30 am. I wake my sister and parents and we all flee downstairs. Under the tree there seems to be an endless amount of presents. I rip open my gifts as if there is no tomorrow. I have received everything I wanted which includes a Nintendo Wii, a new Jets football and jersey, a basketball and a lot more. I amass my toys in a pile and run into the dining room to once again eat a scrumptious breakfast. When breakfast is over, I race out of the dining room and head straight towards my new stack of toys. I’m ecstatic that Christmas is finally here!!

    Nick,
Just reading the descriptions of your breakfast and dinner made me hungry! I would love to dine at the “5 star” restaurant and eat ham and apple pie with ice cream. Yummy!
    Great essay.
