My Ideal Holiday – Sydney

“O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree…” we sang jubilantly. My whole extraordinary family even my zany cousins were gathered around our gorgeous Christmas tree. As the bright white, fluffy snowflakes fell from the huge, baby blue sky we sang our traditional Christmas songs.         After singing all of the wonderful songs, we were going to open some presents. Of course I had to open mine last. As everyone else opened their presents, my eyes were riveted to a huge package behind the tree with my name on it. I was gleaming with joy. I couldn’t wait to tear open the beautifully wrapped present. FINALLY IT WAS MY TURN…….         “Wwwwweeeeeee,” I screamed at the top of my lungs. I received exactly what I wanted: a beautiful, wonderful, pink, all for me- POGO STICK. I felt as though I were the luckiest girl in the world and as if the pogo stick and I belonged together while I jumped on it during the coldest day of the year. Since I was only in my pajamas, I ran inside to put on some warmer clothes.          After playing outside for about two hours, my mom eventually made me come back into my cozy house. Even though I couldn’t feel any part of my body, I still wanted to play on that wonderful present. I ran inside almost tripping seven times because I couldn’t feel my numb toes.         Once everyone was inside and settled, we made delectable hot cocoa and coffee. While all of my cousins drank their hot cocoa, they talked about past Christmases while I daydreamed in the background. I was thinking about summer. Now it was finally winter and I wanted it to be summer. Since I had the perfect summer, that kind of affected my almost perfect Christmas. It’s funny how one summer can change everything. It must be something about the heat and the smell of chlorine, the fresh-cut grass and honeysuckle, asphalt sizzling after late-day thunderstorms. Something about long, lazy days and bright colored flip-flops from the Gap just a mile away. Something about Christmas being so soon. The funny thing is, over the whole summer, all I wanted was Christmas!          “Oh my God I’m going to miss you SO much,’ my little cousin screamed in my ear. The wonderful day full of memories was coming to an end, however, a lifetime of memories was about to begin. All I have to do is believe!!!!!!!!!!
