Announcements for Wednesday, Day 2

Despite falling 10-4 to a tough league rival, the Horsemen ladies played inspired lacrosse today. Led by their stellar defense, headed by Alexis Bateman and Bianca Bucci, the ladies kept Hastings at bay. Also aboard for the “defensive ride” was Leah Morales, who made 17 sensational saves. Offensively, Andrea Alvarez and Gabby Cellante scored once, while Rachel Swenson added two goals. The Horsemen ladies improved drastically since their first encounter with Hastings, and any bystander could tell Sleepy’s opponent was frustrated with penetrating their dynamic defense. Tomorrow they look to avenge their first match up against another league opponent, Ardsley.

There will be a brief 5min football meeting Friday at 3 in room 104W for all JV and varsity football players.

Aidswalk Participants must attend Mandatory meeting on Friday, 5/15, in Room 202C. You must turn in your permission slip and $5 for your t-shirt. If you are unable to attend you must see Ms. Dreher before Friday.

During Saturday’s contest, the Horsemen ladies were neck and neck with their opponent and host, Ossining, as the consolation game of the 1st annual River Cup Lacrosse Tournament got underway. For most of the first half, the Sleepy Hollow girls played well on both sides of the field. However, as the first half continued the Horsemen ladies were up against Ossining’s crafty passing and relentless shooting. As a result of this offensive attack, the first half ended with a score of 8-3. During the second half, the
Horsemen again played inspired lacrosse, but despite their efforts fell 15-8 as the final seconds of the game ticked away. The Horsemen offense was led by Andrea Alvarez, who scored 3 goals and pitched in an assist. Other players who added some spark offensively were Annelise Birrittella, 2 goals, Marisa Weissman, 1 goal and an assist, Katherine Doyle and Rachel Swenson, 1 goal each, and Gabby Cellante with 1 assist. Defensively, Bianca Bucci and Alexis Batemen played well, while Leah Morales made 14 well earned saves. The ladies look forward to this Monday’s contest, May 4th, against their league opponent, Eastchester.

As the second half of the game got underway, the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team finally played much more inspired and determined lacrosse. Their style of play indicated that they certainly “came out of the gates running” in the second half and ended up outscoring their opponent, Wappingers, 4-3. Unfortunately, due to a one-sided offensive attack during the first half, in which the team was down 8-2, the Horsemen ladies had quite a deficit to contend with. The result was a 11-6 loss, but that certainly did nothing to diminish the pride and progression made by the girls. A definite bright spot offensively for the Horsemen was Andrea Alvarez, who scored 4 spectacular goals and notched one remarkable assist to her teammate Annelise Birrittella, who put it away with a fantastic quick stick. The other lone goal was from Rachel Swenson, who powered her way through the defense and finished with a strong shot to the back of the net. Defensively, Bianca Bucci and Alexis Batemen played extremely well, along with Gabrielle Cellante and Taylor Greenberg, who chipped in to guard their own goal. Leah Morales made 9 saves in goal, doing her best to stop the relentless shooting attack from Wappingers’ offense. The ladies continue their play in the River Cup, the 1st annual hosted by Ossining, today, May 2nd, when they play the host at 3 p.m.

Announcements for Friday, Day 6

Yesterday Sleepy Hollow beat Irvington 8 to 7 bringing our record to (6-4). Jamie Bucci was the winning pitcher. Jen Onwe had two hits an RBI and 3 Runs scored. Olga Thomas had two hits 2 RBI’s and a Run scored. Brittany Brand had two hits and two RBI’s. Brand also had two assist from center field throwing a runner out at Home and one out at second.

In an attempt to win against a strong league opponent, the Horsemen Girls Varsity Lacrosse team fell short today, losing 11-2 to Hastings. During the beginning of the game, however, the ladies held a 2-2 tie for a portion of the first half. Unfortunately, due to a strong Hastings team, the ladies were down 6-2 at halftime. The team and coaches got together at halftime to sort things out, but they could not hold back their opponents relentless offensive attack. For the Horsemen ladies, Alexis Batemen played tremendous defense, while Sara Rennert, who also pitched in on defense, added some second half spark. Doing her best to fend off the Hastings attackers, Leah Morales made 10 saves in goal. Gianna Volpe played well on both sides of the field, and offensively, both Annelise Birrittella and Andrea Alvarez scored a goal each. The ladies look to achieve victory Friday, May 1st, when they play in the Ossining tournament.

On Wednesday, the boys compete3d against Irvnigton and Nanuet. Danny Alves dominated the 100 meter dash with a career best 10.9 seconds. He also won the long jump with a leap of 19’ 11”. Jake Rosen and Ronnie Bertrand also ran great with a time of 11.9 seconds. Nick Carraro won the shot put and placed 2nd in the discus. Will McCabe ran 3 personal best in the sprints. His 400m time was the best for our team this year in 59.4 seconds.
