Announcements for Tuesday, Day 2

Art Club will meet Wednesday this week.

Attention all GSA members: You must attend today’s meeting all members will be trained on the presentation. All members must attend.

Attention students going to Spain. We will have a very important meeting on Thursday, 3/1 in Room 301E at 3:05PM. We will discuss medical forms, diet (needs) and rooming. Thanks. Sr. Collado.

There will be a Stage Crew meeting in Mr. Dileo’s room right after school on Wednesday, February 29th.

Girls Varsity and JV Lacrosse practice tomorrow, 2/29, at 3:15PM at W.I. upper field – Must have a signed blue form from nurse.

Attention Fall Boy’s Soccer Seniors, please report to room 202C on Wednesday at 3PM for a yearbook photograph. Please wear red.

“There will be a brief but important meeting for anyone interested in playing Boys’ Modified, JV, or Varsity Basketball next year. Information about spring workouts, AAU, and summer leagues will be discussed. The meeting will take place at 3:15 in the HS gym this Thursday March 1st.”

Announcements for Monday, Day 1

Congratulations to All-Star track & field athlete, Gillian Berger. Gillian qualified in all three of her events, 55 meters, long jump and triple jump, at the state qualifier track meet. Gillian is one of two in section 1 to qualify in all of the events she competed in. She will be competing at this week’s NYS Track & Field Meet at Cornell University. Good luck, Gillian!!!

Junior Dinner tickets will go on sale tomorrow outside the cafeteria during all lunch periods. The dinner is fast approaching – it is March 16th, a Friday night extravaganza. What a wonderful occasion to share. Mrs. Kaplan and Mrs. B. will boogie for you so buy a ticket ASAP and join the fun.

“The ESL Club is going ice skating this Friday. The cost of the trip is $12 and includes the skates and the bus ride. We will leave at 6:45 from outside the middle school gym and return at 9:30. You will need to turn in your money and permission by Friday in school. There is a limit to the number of students we can take, so turn in your permission slip early to ensure a place on the trip. Permission slips are available from Ms. McGraw in the middle school or Mrs. Hull in the high school. ”

All Foreign Language Honor Society officers will be meeting today after school briefly in Mr. Collado’s room. Thanks!

“The famous Amphion String Quartet will be visiting our school on TOMORROW, February 28th. They will be performing for all the string orchestra students in the Middle and High School at 9:00 AM on Tuesday. Teachers are asked to please dismiss orchestra students at 8:50 AM tomorrow morning and the performance will last for 45 minutes in the auditorium.”

There is an important yearbook meeting today, Monday 2/27 @ 3:00 in room 201c. The next printer deadline is fast approaching and we also need to make decisions on the yearbook dedication and cover design.

Announcements for Thursday, Day 5

National Honor Society meeting originally scheduled for February 14th has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 28th in room 319W at 3:10pm.
Please be prepared to nominate and second juniors for the NHS officer’s positions of president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and historian for 2012-2013 school year.

On Wednesday, February 15th, the boys and girls indoor track team competed at the Section 1 Championships. Gillian Berger had a phenomenal meet winning gold in three events. She won the long jump, triple jump and ran a personal best to edge out Somers in the 55m dash. She is competing in next week’s state qualifier and has a great shot to make it the the State Championships in Syracuse.

Congratulations to the boys’ basketball team for playing hard and never quitting in a difficult loss to a strong Brewster team last night. The boys never quit and we are proud of their efforts. The team was led by Harley Falasca with 29 points in a great effort. On behalf of the team and Coach Rizzo, we would like to thank all our supports for last and all year long.

On Wednesday, February 15, the Sleepy Hollow Pioneer team faced their toughest opponent of the floor hockey season as we took on Lakeland. With a score of 4-2, the game was tight the entire time but once again, our athletes came together and hustled for the win. Andrew Kozak, Brenda Alfaro, Bryan Cabreja and Carlos Reyes Rojas each scored goals for our team. Manny Rodriguez, Molly Leavey and Brandon Cooper played great defense throughout the game, keeping the puck moving and out of Sleepy Hollow territory. Nice job everyone!
Mark your calendars for our next HOME game – Wednesday, 2/29 – this will be our last floor hockey game and we then go into basketball!

Get your ‘Game On’ this coming Thursday, Feb. 16, 5:30 – 8 PM when Warner Library hosts their VIDEO GAME party featuring ‘Super Smash Brothers Brawl’ and for the dancers, ‘The Michael Jackson Experience. Spectators as well as players welcome! FREE snacks and prizes for the winning players.

Announcements for Tuesday, Day 3

Just a reminder to students and staff that we will have school on Friday, 2/17. It will be a regular school day.

There is still time to buy roses and a box of chocolate for that special someone today. Come to Dr. Burton’s office. Roses and Chocolates are $3.00 each. Happy Valentine’s Day

Girls’ Basketball game this Friday, Sectional Playoff vs. the winner of Panas or Beacon. Game time will be at 6:30pm and the Sectional admission fee is $3.00. Please come out and support our girls and see them win their first Sectional playoff game in over 12 years.
Boys will be at Brewster this week on Wednesday, 7pm game. If you need directions to Brewster come up to the Athletic office.

Mock Trial will meet today at 4pm.

Girls’ lacrosse (both JV & Varsity) will have a meeting / practice after school this Thursday 2/16 @ 3:15. Meet in the hallway between the two gyms. Please be prepared: cleats / sneaker & warm cloths

Art Club will meet Wednesday this week in 202C.

GSA has a very important meeting today. All members MUST attend.

Announcements for Monday, Day 2

ATTENTION WRITERS AND ARTISTS: The final submission deadline for the 2011-2012 issue of Shadow and Substance is March 1, 2012. Any work received after March 1st will be considered a 2012-2013 submission, AND WILL NOT BE ADDED TO THIS YEAR’S PUBLICATION. Please submit electronically: e-mail to litmag@tufsd.org or drop your submission in the Literary Magazine Submissions folder in the Z drive.

There will be a brief emergency meeting of the Math and Science Honor Societies afterschool on Tuesday Feb. 14th at 3:05pm in Mr. Choi’s room. All members must attend. Please see Mr. Choi or Mrs. Walsh if you have a conflict.

Today is the last day to place your orders with the African-American Heritage Club for boxes of chocolate, roses or carnations, for delivery tomorrow on Valentine’s Day. Orders will be taken in the cafeteria during each lunch period.
Roses and boxes of chocolate are $3.00 each; carnations are $2.00. Show some one that you care.

Yearbook Club meeting today, 2/13, @ 3:00 in 201C. All members please attend as we will be making the final decision on the cover design. Also, there are many new pages to assign & design.

Announcements for Friday, Day 1

Nominations for National Honor Society officers for 2012-2013 will be held in room 319W at 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14th.
Nominations for the office of President, vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian will be recorded.
NHS is looking for candidates with strong leadership skills, a commitment to the National Honor Society, and innovative ideas to govern approximately 140 students.
Voting for candidates will be Wednesday, February 15th in 319W before and after school, and during lunch.

On Thursday, February 9, the Pioneer Team defeated Portchester/Fox Lane in floor hockey with a score of 7-5. Scoring goals for The Horsemen were Andrew Kozak, Molly Leavey and Brandon Cooper each with 2 and Brenda Alfaro with 1. Bryan Cabreja and Carlos Reyes-Rojas played great defense, keeping the puck out of Sleepy Hollow territory. Manny Rodriguez played great defense AND offense with 6 shots on goal!

Our next game is away, 2/15 at Yorktown.

Announcements for Wednesday, Day 5

There is a High School Orchestra night rehearsal this Monday night, Feb. 13. All strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion players need to arrive at 7:00 PM to Mrs. Trenczer’s room this coming Monday for the rehearsal.

Attention all there will be a LASO meeting on Thursday right after 8th period in room 312west.

Announcements for Friday, Day 2

On Thursday, February 2, the Horseman Pioneer Hockey Team defeated Portchester with a score of 7-2! Scoring goals for Sleepy Hollow was Molly Leavey, Andrew Kozak, Brandon Cooper and Manny Rodriguez and bringing the score to 7 was Brenda Alfaro with a hat trick! Playing great defense for the team was Bryan Cabreja and we saw some great passing on the court.
Our next game is HOME! Please join us on Thursday, February 9th – there will be a special demonstration of noodle hockey…never heard of it? Come see what its all about and have some fun!

Hey, listen up Sleepy Hollow, after passing all you midterms -You have earned a night of dancing. Tonight is our Winter Dance. It starts at 8pm and ends at 11pm in the Middle School gym. Remember, you will not be allowed to enter after 9pm. So be certain to arrive before 9pm. The entrance fee is $5.
