The Vocabulary Word for Today is: Redundant – Extra or unnecessary.
After removing all redundant phrases from my paper during a final editing session, my thesis was clear and the writing flowed much better.

The student was so embarrassed after waling into the wrong bathroom. She must have missed the sign on the door denoting it as the boys’ room.

Everyone is invited to come for an evening of class and style!”e an Upstander. Support causes that bring clean water to third world countries. More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99%, occur in the developing world.

Upstanders are people who do not just stand by when they see injustice. They act to try to “level the playing field”. Next time you use your cell phone, remember that globally, there are more mobile phones than toilets. All children need clean water. Let’s do something about it.

Announcements for Tuesday, Day 4

The Vocabulary Word for Today is: Rhetoric – Writing and speaking effectively and persuasively.
My guidance counselor suggested I take a course in rhetoric to help me get over my fear of public speaking.

In support of Upstanders Week and the focus on the need for clean water for everyone, consider the following: An American taking a five-minute shower uses more water than the average person living in a slum in a developing country uses for an entire day.

Congratulations to Jack Bender for making it to the final round of the Sectional Golf Tournament. Playing from the tips at Metropolis Country Club, Jack shot a 78. He is currently tied for ninth place. The field which consisted of the best 54 high school golfers in our Section was narrowed to 30. Jack will play on Wednesday at Fenway Country Club with the hope of making it to the State Championship.

Sleepy Hollow, ranked #2 in Class A, will be playing their first home game on Wednesday at 4:00pm in the first round of the Section 1 Baseball Tournament, vs. the winner of Nanuet/Riverside.

There is a mandatory LASO meeting today in room 312 West after 8th period.

Congratulations to the Sleepy Hollow Varsity Baseball team for capturing their 1st LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP in 35 years by defeating Dobbs Ferry 2-0. Alec Stoll pitched a 4 hit, 12 strikeout complete game to lead the Horseman to the Championship! Peter Pena and Inmer Rosado had and RBI each. The Horseman face Tappan Zee in their regular season final tomorrow at Tappan Zee.

The African-American Heritage Club will meet on Thursday at 3:05 pm in room 304East.

This Wednesday, May 15th, the 3rd Annual “Pony” Awards will be presented in the high school auditorium at 7:30. Come support the talented student actors who participated in the Fall Drama and Spring Musical.

Attention all track participants: Uniforms are due to Mrs. Hickey as soon as possible – please bring them to room 209W or place them labeled in her mailbox.

Announcements for Monday, Day 4

Attention all seniors: The final two (2) scholarships are posted in Guidance – they are the Puggiero Kelly Firefighters and Principia Green Award. Hurry they are due this Thursday to Guidance by 3:00PM. Good luck!

On Saturday, May 11th, the boys track team competed in the Rasbeck Relays. The relay team of Dante Ellis, John Lara Mota, Danny Elia and Will Stallings dominated all the sprint relays at the meet. They won the sprint medley relay, the 4×100 and the 4×200. They broke the school record in the sprint medley relay. In the 4×400, Nolan Samford had an outstanding anchor leg running 56.5 seconds and brought the team from 5th to 3rd place. Our next meet is Saturday, May 18th at Byram Hills HS. We will be competing in the Westchester County Championships.

Sleepy Hollow softball – Yesterday Sleepy Hollow beat Gorton 20 to 2. Sarah McCarthy, Skarlen Valentin and Jenny Bucci each had two hits. Sarah McCarthy, Jenny Bucci and Christine Greige combined to pitch a two hitter. Wednesday we are at Eastchester. Friday we are at home against Ardsley.
